This is a classic Halloween special. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids got trick or treating. This being a 1970's children's show, they learn a lesson, too.

The time of Halloween doesn't mean you should watch weak Halloween stuff

"The Fat Albert Halloween Special" is an animated television special from 1977, which means that this was made 40 years ago when actor Bill Cosby was half the age he is now and Fat Albert was always one of his career-defining characters, even if it was "only" voice acting. The rest of the cast are not really well-known here and same goes for the director and writers, even if they had successful and prolific careers. As for this one here, it is the story of a bunch of young African Americans who may not have a lot of money, but what they have is friendship and we see in their television show how they go on a lot of adventures together. This Halloween special was made while the long-running show was still airing, like other specials (Christmas, Easter). But it does not get me curious at all about the show I must say. Animation is tolerable at best, but it is okay as it took about half a century for animated films to really top the years of the Golden Age of Animation. So yes, progress stood still at that point, also back in 1977. Story-wise, even with the kids running around on a graveyard on Halloween night this is never a scary film, but it also never was intended as such. However, it was intended as comedy and I thought that it never felt witty or particularly creative at all. Don't think I laughed more than once and even for 22 minutes or so, this just isn't enough. Don't watch. Not even on Halloween. This is not a failure, but certainly closer to that than to a success. Skip it.
