Somewhat Jingoistic History of The Alamo
lchadbou-326-265923 November 2019
While the half dozen or so historian talking heads here add useful information to the narration by Kenny Rogers, this episode on the context of what American settlers were doing in the mid 1830s fighting the army of newly independent Mexico on Mexican territory gives a distorted view of what was basically a land grab by us colonialists to the north.Having spent much time in a Canada, I can only compare this situation, for a little perspective, to what would happen if a majority American population took over a Canadian province and engaged in military action against the Ottawa government, declaring their province independent. There may be things in United States history worth waving the flag over, but this defense of a fortress near San Antonio is not one of them, despite the mystique that has developed around it over the years by the likes of John Wayne.
