According to one of the other reviewers, there are two plot holes. However, they are thoroughly incorrect.

First, when Shepherd was avoiding the drones fired on the jumper by the Replicators, he dove under water, ceasing the drones chase. This does not mean that the drones cannot operate under water as the previous reviewer points out. This merely means the drones didn't chase them under water. Maybe the Replicator controlling the drones didn't know where they went, maybe they didn't think the drones could operate in water, or maybe they drones were tracking the ship by themselves and couldn't lock-on to them when they submerged, who knows. Definitely not a "hole" enough to ruin the story.

Secondly, in regards to the claim that the Replicators were "immune" to the weapons, that is simply incorrect. When Ronan was shooting the Replicators right before their capture, he was using his own pistol (notice the RED blast, not blue). Every instance they used the anti- Replicator guns, they worked. Furthermore, their anti-Rep guns weren't even operational since they took the crystals out to rig the final attack using Atlantis' shield.

I find no plot holes in these episodes. "The Return" contains some of the best writing out of all the Stargate series. After seeing the entirety of SG-1 and the episodes leading up to this in Atlantis the plots are fairly predictable. "The Return" had me guessing till the end, and didn't end up like I expected. Well done!

Best episode EVER!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode, together with part 1, of course, must count as the best episode ever! It's a roller-coaster ride of good writing. I was surprised a couple of times with the way the story was going. At the end, you think: Whoa! What just happened!!? To have managed this in 80 minutes, it's simply outstanding! I am looking forward to more from these writers, keep em coming! Also the acting is good.

Especially McKays ruse was brilliant, they've used his annoying personality against us, the suspicious viewers. You're thinking like, "How can he be this stupid!!!?" That was really bad for the old ticker!

Great flying sequence with the Puddle Jumper between the city, we should see more of those.

The Melancholic Alcoholic.

Richard Dean Anderson and Rober Picardo do a great comedic routine. The writing of this episode is terrific. A must see.

Two plot holes I couldn't understand

Warning: Spoilers
It's been a few years but I'm just getting around to watching Atlantis complete run. When it originally aired I was not enthused and stopped watching rather quickly, even though I love SG-1.

"The Return" was a great story and I would have given it a 10 instead of a 5 if it weren't for two plot holes I could not figure out.

The first one is when the jumper is attacked by drones, they dive into the water and the drones just skip away into the air. Later, they fire drones at the starship engines, which are UNDER WATER, and the drones work fine.

The second one is that they rig up the shield operation to emit an anti-replicator burst throughout the city, presumably using the frequency that the guns were using, which you would think is the only one they know at the moment. Then they show us the replicators adapting to the frequency. Immediately after, the shield activation emits the frequency and all the replicators die.

It's just frustrating, unless I'm missing something.

Getting tired of the replicator episodes
jasonemartin-759272 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really just getting pretty tired of all these episodes in Stargate that feature the replicators. The show was interesting to me when it featured shows that focus on Earth religions being based on visitations by ancient extraterrestrial travelers, not when it's about replicators. I was feeling so hopeful about Stargate during the last few seasons of SG-1 as it seemed like the Ori and the Wraith were going to be the new focus that would supplant the replicators, but to my dismay, the replicators seem to be making a comeback in Atlantis. Really, the show was pretty good up until these last several episodes with replicators.
