Edward James Olmos: Admiral William Adama

Quotes

  • Admiral William Adama : Get your fat ass out of here!

  • Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : This whole thing is frackin insane, we got two ships at half strength, crews that haven't seen action in a year and a half and you're acting like the only problem is that they're not working hard enough?

Admiral William Adama : Have you taken a look at yourself in the mirror lately? You're weak, SOFT, mentally and physically.

Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : This isn't about me...

Admiral William Adama : You've had four months to get your act together and so far all you have been able to frackin' do is to complain and whine about how hard it is. Well guess what... It's gonna get a lot harder. Do you understand me? Now I want you to turn around and get your fat ass outta here. GET YOUR MEN READY or I'll find someone who can. DISMISSED!

  • Lt. Sharon 'Athena' Agathon : Can I ask you something, very personal? Do you feel guilty about leaving the people behind on New Caprica?

Admiral William Adama : I don't do guilt.

Lt. Sharon 'Athena' Agathon : You know, a year ago, when you put me in this cell, I was at a crossroads. I sat in here for weeks just consumed with rage at all the things that had happened to me. Then at some point I realized that it was all just guilt. I was angry at myself for the choices I had made. Betraying my people... losing the baby... So I had a choice. I could either move forward or stay in the past. But the only way to move forward was to forgive myself. You know, I don't think we can survive. I don't think the fleet, or Galactica, or the people on New Caprica can survive unless the man at the top, finds a way to forgive himself.

  • Admiral William Adama : Sharon can penetrate the Cylon defenses...

Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : It's not about her.

Admiral William Adama : Centurions can't distinguish her from the other humanoid models. Did you know that?

Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : Admiral...

Admiral William Adama : They were deliberately programmed that way. The Cylons didn't want them becoming self-aware, suddenly resisting orders. They didn't want their own robotic rebellion on their hands. I can appreciate the irony.

  • Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : Remember what Roslin said. Our FIRST responsibility is the survival of humanity. We can't lose sight of that. Over the last year, we've lost sight of almost everything... we got soft. But if we go back to New Caprica now... and we lose, it's over. Humanity just stops. Admiral's stars don't give you the right to make that gamble.

Admiral William Adama : You're right son. You should make plans to resume the search for Earth with Pegasus and the civilian fleet.

Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : with Pegasus... what about Galactica?

Admiral William Adama : I know why we left those people behind and I know it was their choice in the first place to be down there and I realize that the survival of the human race outweighs anything else. But THIS time, I can't live with it, can't face it. Maybe I'm a coward, but I am going back.

Commander Lee 'Apollo' Adama : Dad you won't have a chance...

Admiral William Adama : I'm going back, son.
