- When a theater offers a free wedding to a couple, confusion reigns.
- We find Mrs. Jones, daughters June and Carol, and June's unwanted suitor, motorcycle patrolman Gus seated around the dinner table, while Gus tries to amuse the ladies with some silly stories - he was chasing two Chinese washer men and a lunatic, who get hit by a truck - and what did he find - a nit and two washers. Suddenly Gus sees an ad in the newspaper that Carol is reading about a movie theater that is offering $100 to a couple who consent to being married on-stage in front of the theater audience. Gus opines that he and June should take advantage of that. When June retorts that she has never said she would marry him, he replies that her mother wants the marriage to go ahead and that she's too smart a girl to pass up such a good opportunity. The girls leave the room and Carol says she should marry boyfriend Charlie, and June says she wants to but Charlie "hasn't got a dime." Charlie arrives with his pal Grady, who, knowing she would agree, has already made the arrangements for them to be married at the movie theater and get the $100. The foursome almost make it out the door when Mrs. Jones and Gus enter. June tells them they're going to the movies, but as they are leaving, the nightgown she stuffed in her purse gets caught on the doorknob, and they bolt for Charlie's car to make a getaway. Gus tries to pursue them, but his motorcycle goes about five feet and gets stuck in a deep puddle. The next scene finds the foursome at a police station where they have been taken and Charlie charged with speeding, no doubt trying to cross the border into Mexico, and Charlie's bail is set at $50. Carol tries to sweet-talk the Sgt. into letting Charlie go, explaining that June wants to marry him, not the "flat-foot motor cop" that their mother prefers. She is also thrown in jail for insulting the police. Carol suggests they go to the theater, get the money in advance and come back and pay Charlie's bail. They go to the theater, where the audience is threatening to leave and get their money back if there is no wedding. The theater manager tells them to hurry inside for the marriage and explains that if they decide they don't like each other, they are at the border and can get a Mexican divorce for $10. June and Grady get married and get the money, when Charlie and Carol show up with a policeman who explains that Charlie said his pal would stay in jail while Charlie got married. June and Grady don't want Charlie to know that they are married. So, Grady kicks the officer, he and June point to Charlie as the culprit, and Charlie and Carol are headed back to jail, while Grady and June head for the border. In Mexico they stop at a hotel advertising $10 divorces, register for a room and go to await the judge. While they are waiting, Charlie and Carol run into the hotel, with the officer in pursuit and hide in the room occupied by Grady and June, who, unseen, go into the connecting bathroom and then enter next room and go downstairs. The judge arrives to perform the divorce, but Charlie and Carol explain that they are not married, and the judge says they will have to leave the hotel. They go downstairs, only to run into Grady and June, and Charlie goes to get the judge to perform the marriage. Back in the room, Grady knocks Charlie out with a jug, but Carol revives him before the judge can divorce Grady and June. Then Grady hears the officer in the hall and gets him to come in and chase Charlie and Carol out, but they come back before the judge can divorce Grady and June. Now Carol wants to talk in the hall with June, who she accuses of trying to marry her Grady. Grady slips into the adjoining bathroom, disguises himself, goes into the hall, gags Carol and locks her in a closet. Charlie comes out and starts to fight with this "stranger" and June knocks him out. Now Grady and June are getting their divorce, but Charlie and Carol think they are getting married. They go downstairs when they hear Mrs. Jones and Gus arguing with the hotel manager and explain that Grady is marrying June even as they talk. Mrs. Jones vows that June will marry Gus and everyone goes upstairs to stop the wedding. Charlie and Carol stay in the hall, while Mrs. Jones and Gus enter the room. Grady and June exit through the connecting rooms and wind up in the hall, where June explains all and Charlie realizes what a great pal Grady is. Suddenly Mrs. Jones and Gus enter the hall. The foursome with the judge in tow head downstairs towards their car and take off, telling the judge to perform the marriage in transit. Mrs. Jones and Gus arrive outside and Gus takes off on his motorcycle and goes about five feet, when he runs into a deep puddle.
