Building up to another great finale
bradbowles27 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I am giddy with anticipation after watching Bunk's reaction to Lester's proclamation that the vacant building next to the playground is a tomb. It is hard to believe that there are only two episodes left this season. It is even harder to imagine that next season will be the final season. How will the new mayor deal with the school budget deficit after announcing a police pay raise? How will the major crimes unit come back together? Will their be a change at the top of the police department this season? What role will McNulty play in it, if any? Will Omar take control of the city's drug trade, or will there be a free-for-all like "City of God?"

Carcetti is faced with a number of difficult problems, whilst law enforcement strategy appears to be changing in Baltimore.

This is an excellent episode with a number of great character moments.

There is a creeping dread associated with this episode, particularly with the wave of a new dawn Carcetti rides through the streets and public departments of Baltimore. As the positivity builds higher, you feel how nasty the fall is likely to be. The writers and crew portray this incredibly well and in one scene where budgets are discussed, you feel the bubble bursting.

Michael, Randy, and Dukie have some memorable moments that stir up feelings of both pride and sadness. Only a person with a heart of stone would not cheer Michael on in the scene where he displays an unshakable code of loyalty to a schoolmate. Randy and Dukie both suffer difficult circumstances depicted with strong writing and sympathetic performances from Maestro Harrell and Jermaine Crawford.

Wendell Pierce is on top form as Bunk and Freamon not only deals with the consequences of Herc's previous ineptitude, but makes progress in a murder investigation. The final scene associated with this has been a long time coming and makes you excited for what comes next.

Other characters have memorable moments like Prez, Omar, Bubbs, and McNulty. Rawls scene feels slightly out of character for someone who is shown to be razor sharp (most of the time) lacking the self-awareness that Valchek points out.

Visually it is an exceptionally good episode and there are so many shots and sequences that I love, it's hard to pick a favourite. I particularly enjoyed the transitioning between the subpoenas and the associated characters meeting Carcetti.

For me its a 9.5/10 but I round upwards.

Warning: Spoilers
Another solid episode, with a couple of revelations. Freamon finally discovered that the vacants are where the bodies are at, but if you ask me it's pretty unrealistic, especially by this show's standards, that it took this long for homicide to realise. It was common knowledge on the street that the vacants were being used, and word gets around, right? Not only that, but for whatever reason, Prez omitted the fact that Randy mentioned them? That was extremely infuriating, especially considering that's probably a piece of info an ex-cop would definitely pass on, right? I don't see how he couldn't have relayed that information without harming Randy if that was his reason, but I'm pretty sure there was no reason at all. Anyway, Omar and Marlo look set to come into direct conflict, and it's honestly a wonder that he is still breathing. His actions are definitely gonna get him capped sooner or later; I simply can't see him living come the end of this show. Other than that, it was a fairly slow episode and yet again a lot of build up. It's like this show builds up to more build up
