Seeing Edgar G. Ulmer’s The Black Cat (1934) again recently, my appetite was whetted to re-read Theodore Roszak’s Flicker, which uses Ulmer’s strange career as a master stylist exiled to a career toiling in B-movie obscurity as a jumping-off point for a sinister story engorged with a decadent and whispered history of movies. Three years ago I was commissioned to write about Flicker for writer Bill Ryan’s annual October consideration of horror at his great blog The Kind of Face You Hate. I had to admit, I never really thought of Flicker as a horror novel in the strictest sense while I was immersed in it-- the first half reads more like an indulgent orgy of movie lore woven expertly into a pleasingly reluctant, expertly teased detective story. But the book certainly qualifies as horror in that it shares the obsessive nature of its protagonist,...

It’s advertised as “the one that goes All The Way!” Ruggero Deodato’s controversial 1980 cult film, Cannibal Holocaust, features a human feeding frenzy after a South American cannibal tribe selects a group of documentary filmmakers to be their next meal. A big influence on Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno, Cannibal Holocaust is making a comeback to the silver screen this fall via Grindhouse Releasing.
“Grindhouse Releasing brings director Ruggero Deodato’s notorious horror classic Cannibal Holocaust back to the big screen starting this weekend at Landmark Theatres across the United States.
Cannibal Holocaust tells the story of four documentary filmmakers who experience brutal death at the hands of a savage South American tribe of flesh-eaters. The film is so intense, so graphic and so unflinching in its realism that the director and producer of Cannibal Holocaust were arrested on its original release and the film was seized.

Ed Gein was a real, American cannibal killer who wore people's skin. In 1974, this manifested as a movie called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that to this day is a great movie that I'm sure all you horror fans have watched over and over.
But that's the only one I can heartily recommend to everyday movie people. Director Tobe Hooper returned for 1986's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, but had no part in 1990s Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 or 1994's Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.
Then, Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes got their hands on the franchise and rebooted in 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which lead into 2006's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (directed by Tmnt director Jonathan Liebsman) and 2013's Texas Chainsaw 3D.
Now it's Millennium Films' turn to take a shot at this franchise, and they've hired up-and-coming writer Seth M. Sherwood to...
