Back to the location-to-location last-name-spouting gumshoe approach of the pilot, this episode gives Burt Reynold's titular cop a beautiful girl, but he's mellow as a lawman and he's mellow with the ladies... some might not even recognize the personality of anything Burt's done after, from Deliverance to all the fun car chase movies...
He sort of walks around on his own show like he's experiencing it or watching it instead of ruling it... which isn't too bad because there's nothing worse than an overacted show from this era... Not a bad episode but not a great one... Filler pretty much... The investigation of murdered rich guy who Dan knew previously; the device of this show is that he knows everyone in the town that he comes across/investigates throughout...
AND A FEW THINGS TO ADD: Burt's toupee is noticeable for the first time, rising a bit too high from his head... Also, this episode is twice as loud as the others for some reason...
Also, this is one of two episodes turned into a TV-movie at the peak of Burt's fame ten years later, 1980, which was titled DAN AUGUST: THE JEALOUSY FACTOR connected with MURDER BY PROXY.
