An unsteady encounter
xredgarnetx10 March 2007
Well, the writers of GW certainly know how to keep things hopping. This time around, in FURY, Melinda encounters the ghost of a murdered black man. He is furious at the town judge over the failure to bring his killer, a white trash type, to justice. The dead guy has enough power to put the poor judge, fat and aging, into the hospital. Melinda also put deal with the dead man's son and grandson, the latter fortunately able to see his grandfather's ghost. This racially-charged episode gets a bit preachy at the end. Giancarlo Esposito is the ghost, and not having seen this wonderful actor in awhile, I almost did not recognize him. He also lets Melinda know she has made enemies on the other side, and perhaps she had better watch out.

An Excellent First-Season Effort

Warning: Spoilers
While GW essentially specialized in melodramatic entertainment, on occasion it was not afraid to present social commentary: sorority hazing, right to die, spousal abuse, Lesbian love...This episode is no different, as it explores racial bigotry and a corrupt judicial system from 30 years before., and how that bigotry can pass on to the next generation.

The ghost, a murdered Black man, returns to wreak vengeance on the DA, now an esteemed judge, who failed to prosecute the man who killed him. Throughout the series, the powers of ghosts vary: some have none, others are able to break windows, cause fires, occupy bodies. This one can control the weather.

Those who remember the late Ken Howard only from "1776" and "The White Shadow" will be particularly struck by how the passage of time affected him. He is barely recognizable compared to those roles from long ago.

Also, as the ghost prepares to enter the Light, he warns Melinda of the existence of a group of spirits who is not happy with what she does. This is the first omen of a counter force which plays a major role in subsequent episodes .

The story

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoy watching the Ghost Whisperer every Friday night. If I can't watch it, I always record it. I especially enjoyed last night's show (May 6) however I was very upset at the end to find out that Andrea was "Killed off" the show. I can't believe this. She is Melinda's sidekick, her second best. The show will definitely not be the same without Andrea. It kind of takes some of the "specialty" out of the show now for me. When I saw the first episode of this show I was very skeptical and had decided I probably would not like it, but after the second show, it had me sold. I firmly believe that there are spirits of our loved ones who watch over us and are with us at times - call them angels, ghosts, whatever but they are there. This show is so "real-like" and compassionate and yes, I did cry at last nights show when it was revealed Andrea was dead. I hope this show continues many more seasons.
