A very good movie of a very good comic book mini series
daishi193820 March 2006
This is an excellent film based on a 1984 comic book written by Alan Moore. Moore wrote V for Vendetta about Ms. Thatcher and apathetic societies who do nothing when their government gets out of line. The Wachowski's did take some events from modern times and incorporate it into their story, but it is still based on a retired politician that retired close to 20 years ago.

Individuals need to stop making it about themselves and the US (since it's not about it regardless of what you might believe). Considering the comic was written over 20 years ago I do not see how individuals (such as one particular person in the US military)can view it as propaganda designed to attack whatever they decide is the "truth".

The fact is, it is an extremely cerebral movie that looks at what happens in society when people do nothing, and whether the ideals of one person can make others rise up in the face of tyranny. The action sequences were excellent, acting was amazing and the storyline based loosely on the comic did a great job considering it was only 2 hrs in length.

I recommend this to anyone that wishes to be entertained on a physical and mental level.

for today's day and age
miri200926 October 2006
This movie is worthwhile to watch for anyone living in this "Age of Terrorism" and where all this us versus them talk could lead us. Also shows us that that the more things change, the more things stay the same. It's like regressing 70 years, only this movie takes place in the future and is based on our reality today. It is in comic strip form, but I felt like I was watching a very realistic movie - very well construed and incredibly timely. It leaves you wondering about where today's governments are leading us, and I hope that this movie, if nothing else, sparks reflection on the discourse we hear day in and day out and will leave people looking at all this fear-inciting "security" talk in a different light.

Extremely Entertaining

(FYI - This might be a confusing place to list this since I was looking for the movie I saw last night - see 'V for Vendetta 2005' for that mind-blowing post-modern flick starring Natalie Portman)

Visually provocative, cinematically delicious, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! This was the best eight dollars I've spent in my long history of film-going! I dare say it trumps City of God in this regard.

I love the way McTeigue captures the the spirit of revolution in a world caked with corruption and evil. I love the noticeable parallels he draws between modern politics and the apocalypse--truly disconcerting, but most definitely filled with hope!

This is certainly for people who love great cinematic experiences!

Just watched this movie again, 2020 starting to feel like this movie. The government is taking over our lives and controlling every aspect of it. The people are starting to rebel.

oh my god!! this movie is the greatest movie i have ever seen everything was perfect the cast, the script, the effects it was all perfect. i was in total shock when i got out of the movie. how could a writer write such a brilliant script?!?! i don't like action movie at all but this movie is so good the massage that he brings to the audience, the lesson is fantastic!!! when you see it you suddenly realize that it may not so realistic but yet it makes you feel that it might happen one day..because it may not happen in england and there won't be a government like the one in the movie but it could happen like it was with Hitler and the Nazis..it is on the same basic. not everyone that probably will see the movie gets out with the lesson that it brings..some will see it as a film with some great effects or the fight that the movie shows they won't notice the main idea of the movie, so as a tip from me to you - listen to every word that will say and just let your self enjoy the movie...it is highly recommended-you must see it!!

2nd part?
venus_crystal9 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Hello I loved the movie! I love V character, is the perfect man for every girl who wants a prince in shinning armor, he's cute a pure gentleman he's the best! I loved the way Natalie Portman's character interacted with V, the way he showed her to be free. I'm so thrilled about the movie that i would love it to have a 2nd part, is there going to be a 2nd or a 3rd party? I think it should have a little more action and less talk that was the only thing that bothered me but that was all. I love the idea of a super hero willing to risk his life just to show people how to free their minds and risk everything just to be free. 2 thumbs up!

Solid making-of documentary
Horst_In_Translation18 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, it needs to be said that this title here directed by Josh Oreck and written by Richard Brehm is of course not the actual V for Vendetta movie. It is a little documentary including interviews with the cast and crew, scenes from the film and footage from the shooting of the movie. I think that's the key to it. I always like if documentaries manage to be insightful and interesting and at the very same time avoid spoilers. I cannot deny that these slightly over 20 minutes here got me a bit curious about the movie. I am not sure if I have ever seen it, but if yes, then it was many years back as I don't remember anything except Natalie Portman's bald head, not even Stephen Fry who I quite like and if I forget about him, that means quite something. Then again maybe I wasn't a fan back then yet. Back to this one here: It is pretty accurate, not too short, not too long, several interesting moments, yes a couple empty phrases and over-the-top praising each other too, but it tolerable as it's not that the entire thing consists of that. As a whole, this is definitely a good watch if you like the film, but also if you don't really know it and want to like it. I give a thumbs-up here.

Excellent
mastcaun27 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't sure what to expect coming in but well worth the $8. Portman's accent was a bit shaky in places but her acting was great. Certainly a lot better then Padme, but then it was a better script.

I think Orwell would have been pleased, loved the whole "1984" feeling to it. This movie should make you think about the dangers that come with apathy; however, there was more than enough action to allow your mind to relax and enjoy some good old knife killings.

The final scenes were great with the 1812 Overture and the blowing up of Parliament. It was the perfect movie score with it's themes of war and revolution. Brilliant!

I had never read any of the comics associated with it but I might have to know. Well done, Waschowski (sp?) Brothers, you have atoned for the way you ended the Matrix series.

Breathtaking visuals
leonardogrump30 October 2018
I was blown away by V For Vendetta. A comic book never entices me as it does other people but this film was a pleasant surprise. First-time director James McTeigue is relentless when it comes to pacing, rarely letting things flag for extended scenes of flabby explosion. And if there are times when V for Vendetta is overwrought and chaotic, those lapses are easily forgotten in the midst of the rousing nature of the experience. From a visual standpoint, V for Vendetta bears the earmarks of a comic book-to-film adaptation: rich images, deep shadows, and strong iconography. Do not miss this film under any circumstance.
