Patty has her eyes on a new boy in town- Col. Geoffrey Davis III (Kevin Coughlin), who is the cousin of her friend Harriett. He shares the attraction and the two begin dating, much to the chagrin of Richard. Geoffrey's wealthy family owns a successful, massive horse farm in West Virginia. Patty is enraptured by Geoffrey's intelligence, further pushing her away from Richard. Richard sits down with Martin for advice of of how to even compete with Geoffrey. Martin says he had the same situation when he was dating Natalie. He explains that every girl likes some intrigue in the relationship and to break out of repetitive routines. Indeed, something different grabs Patty's attention, and her and Richard begin new things to do and see. Natalie unknowingly gives Geoffrey advice of what worked to make her fall for Martin, and he begins a counterattack. The boys keep going to the Lanes to implement new strategies, but things spiral in an unexpected direction with a lesson learned.
