What a season finale (NO SPOILERS!)
torben-2631 August 2006
This was an absolutely great season finale and besides "Game Night" (my favorite episode) and "The Pineapple incident" this is one of the greatest episodes of the first season.

Although Neil Patrick Harris (Barney) was great as usual, I really have to say that - in my opinion - Jason Segel (Marshall) was absolutely incredible. I mean, the cast is really strong compared to comedy series like "The New Adventures..." (I really don't like her) and "Out of Practice" and they grew together so fast that I found myself reminded of the good old friends era.

This show has very high potentials, strong characters, great actors, funny lines and a combines a fresh breeze and a great concept with the good old sitcom-style. A great mix with the opportunity of becoming a new phenomenon and definitely the best comedy series in the post-friends-era which first season ended with this marvelous episode.

Come On (#1.22)

Warning: Spoilers
I am pretty surprised how they went on with Lily leaving Marshall. It is really amazing how they manage to put such a dramatic and sad story into a sitcom and still not ruin it. Their fights were amazing. And watching Marshall sit in the rain just broke my heart. I really want the two back together, nobody is as perfect of a couple as these two.

Nothing surprising about Ted and Robin. I really am not sure I am into the idea of the two of them being together. The more we learn about them the less they seem to fit together. But I guess I accept the fact that they are that one couple of the show that they planned to "tease" us with as long as they keep it funny. And they did, Ted's rain dance was sure hilarious.

Superb Television
BadNewsBen23 March 2010
I have watched an incredible amount of TV in the last decade, ranging from the Wire to Friends, from the Sopranos to The Office. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. After I was finished with Friends a couple of months ago, I decided to pick up the first few seasons of this show because of Jason Segal. I was hooked pretty instantly, the characters were intriguing, the plot looked promising, and the comedy was fresh.

As the first season carried on, I became interested in Ted's story. Rather than your average sitcom, it became a matter of wanting each new episode as well as enjoying the one that you were watching now. Before I knew it, I had hit the Season 1 finale: "Come On". As most sitcoms go, I expected to be unfulfilled with a needless cliffhanger, but instead I got something completely foreign to comedy TV (with the exception of "Casino Night" from The Office). HIMYM has brought the joys that I hoped it would, but it has never quite returned to the peak of the Season One finale.

And so begins the disdain for Lily...
Lmsmonroe16 December 2019
This episode is a an okay episode. The bulk of it is Lily and Marshall fighting regarding Lily's need to "make a mistake" and Ted trying to bag Robin (which is pretty much what we've been building to since episode 1).

My biggest sadness is that Barney doesn't play a larger role in this episode. His character really takes a backseat, which is understandable since the episode already has two major plot lines tying up, but his lack of involvement makes the episode less than stellar.

At about 15:00 into the episode, Lily and Marshall are having dinner and Lily begins to cry. I don't know if it was intentional or if Alyson Is just not good at crying, but her crying is overly animated, almost cartoonish and really ruins the mood of the episode. Alyson continues to cry like this throughout the series and it becomes more and more grating ever time she does so.

TLDR: overall good plot pushing information, no Barney, bad crying on Alyson's part.

Lifelong Decisions

I love the idea of "pause" Seasons finale is about relationships and take further next step. Everybody had sort of situations in somewhere in their life. Good episode to think about, nor think about, think from different perspective or be emphatic.

Funny And Entertaining

This show has a great cast , brilliant story lines , funny one-liners.

But It has a lot of moments where it doesn't understand basic human behavior. People break up, get back together, break up, cheat, and all the while continue to hang out with each other as if nothing ever happened. People don't work that way. The show itself is good for a couple of laughs if you ignore the glaring lack of realism in the characters.

Jason Segel Knoks It Out Of The Park In Season One Comes To An End
slightlymad2220 November 2014
It's the last episode in the first season of How I Met Your Mother and I'm not liking where things were headed.

Plot In A Paragraph: Ted decides to make one last romantic gesture to win Robins heart, but unfortunately so does Sandy Rivers. Whilst Marahall finds out about the art scholarship that Lily applied for.

I can't believe the powers that be decided to go ahead with the Lily's cold feet storyline!! Excellent acting all round by Alyson Hannigan and in particular Jason Segel. It was heartbreaking. The scene at the end, where he is sat in the rain is superb acting that required no words.

It was no surprise to see Ted end the season with Robin, I called that from the minute they sent the awesome Victoria off to Germany. So they not only wrecked my favourite Ted relationship, but now the best relationship in the show (other than Barney and his suits)

Despite some average episodes, I've enjoyed most of the first season. Usually an episode that feature Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson heavily. And it's mainly due to him, that I'll see how the second season goes.

Don't watch it twice
jpapanone7 December 2019
First time i watched this years ago when it came out, I probably would have rated it higher. Watching it on reruns...eh. Not great. Fine. I've seen funnier from other shows...and funnier/ better episodes of HIMYM.

Came to dislike the Robin character. Before seeing her entire arc, I was ok with Ted chasing her. But in retrospect, Robin no bueno. So now I watch this episode realizing how unappealing Robin is.
