The road to Tarn-Vedra
Tweekums19 May 2018
After a surprise birthday party Beka gives Dylan the map of slip stream routes leading to Tarn-Vedra; the former Commonwealth capital planet where Dylan was born. It was also cut off from the rest of the universe following the fall of the Commonwealth. It will be a long and dangerous journey but Beka persuades the others that it will be worth it... for Dylan it will be a symbol for his newly formed Commonwealth and for the more mercenary crew members it could hold untold riches for them to 'salvage'. The journey starts well enough but the prolonged time in the slip steam has a negative effect of Trance Gemini. If that weren't enough they then get caught in a particularly dangerous area of space and Beka takes a drastic measure to help them get away... a measure that could put them in further danger.

This, the penultimate episode of season one, is gripping despite not featuring an obvious antagonist... although it could be argued that one of the crew becomes an antagonist. It starts well with Dylan being lured to his surprise party by a faked reactor meltdown. The real excitement then starts once they encounter problem in the slip stream and Beka takes measures that make her increasingly unstable and ultimately dangerous. Lisa Ryder does a really good job as Beka; especially as she gets more and more manic. Overall a solid episode that is somewhat different to most in the series.
