The WORST of the series
simpsonsfan9129 August 2008
The Goblet of Fire movie was one of the best. It was emotionally heartbreaking, and the acting was the finest I've ever seen. This game, though, totally ruined it.

The game is level-based, with no exploration. The entire thing is about collecting shields, which is just plain stupid. And the controls couldn't be more awkward. It's impossible to aim properly when surrounded by so many enemies. When you die, you lose a chocolate frog and re-spawn. So there are limited lives, and when those lives are up, it's back to the start. It quickly goes from fun to very frustrating, as there is no camera control and the view is constantly being blocked.

Instead of casting certain spells that you decide, the spells are cast at random, so on PS2 the X button is jinx, square is charm and triangle is to summon with Accio. But with the targeting system that has a mind of its own, the wrong spell is always being cast.

The level design is horrible. Most of the levels do not happen in the movie, like Prof Moody's training, retrieving the golden egg after Ron drops it down a drain in the prefect's bathroom, and collecting gillyweed from the greenhouses while being attacked by the ridiculous enemies. It's even worse than the nonsense class challenges from the previous games.

Do not buy this game.

And the loser is … the player!
leplatypus18 April 2010
This is the worst game of HP so far.

Sure they tried to do something different: so bye-bye the platforms and now time for exploration and fights. Next, the graphics are much improved this time and look really much like a movie. In addition, they put some role playing cards with stills from the movie, which is great because you don't see much of this in the first three games.

But, unfortunately, the magic of HP ends here: What are the main three levels of the game? roofs of Hoggwarts (more for Batman), forbidden forest and the garden of herbology (more for Swampthing).

There, you keep stumbling against dull monsters (salamanders, big wasps, bottom on fire). They even appear on the key moments and that's a crap because you can't say anymore it's an adaptation! Your goal is to collect shields (I hate this chores list) and if you know that there are 10 shields located in each level, you don't know how many you have collected in each one and each time you got one, you start over! So this game becomes quickly an irritating maze!

The only moments of fun are the triwizard tournament and the fight against Voldemort but to play them, I had to download a completed saved game! Even then, you got those damned clock challenge (it is not Olympic games and I am not motivated for Gold, Silver, Bronze), the cinematics are one poor picture that is zoomed circularly to give some flow.

Well, a great disappointment! Ava kadreva !

Could get better ,but a great game!
bb_bogi29 August 2006
This it's a great game for it's genre.

I like what the EA has done with the action of the game and the graphics. Despite the fact that it's short, this game really introduces you in the actual story of the film and it's a good thing that there are not any other 'mishions' but the the ones related to the story (i'm referring to the 'exploring' that was in the other games the EA did for Harry Potter, the bean bonus 'thing' was making the game playable just for kids under 10 ).

It's true that the last sequels of the Harry Potter movie had become darker and more complex leading to a much enjoyable movie for all ages, and the great thing of this game it's that it follows the exact transformation that it's happening to the movie leading perhaps to much complex and better games that can follow the story maybe more accurate.(The game it's so much enjoyable when it follows the story.)

I'm sorry to say that the end of it had 'something missing'.

I know for many will seem that playing just with keyboard takes away the performance of the game, but i was pleasantly surprised of how this was improving the action scenes of the game.I'd like to say that the camera view of the hole game makes it more exciting giving the player another vision of the game itself(a better one).

In conclusion : Enjoy!!

worst HP game ever
jermonio15 September 2006
I hope EA Games returns to the previous Harry Potter gaming style when releasing ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. I know, characters are no longer kids, obviously the styling must evolve to a less naive approach... but that's no excuse for loosing the Harry Potter charming. Even Jeremy Soule's music was uninspired in GOB. We want to explore Hagworths again. Challenges. Cooperative gaming must not be a limitation but an option (the PC version of Prisoner of Azkhaban was OK... I rather play alone but if cooperative playing is a "must", give at least the option to play on our own). Remember that Harry Potter games are ACTION ADVENTURE games, not this incoherent and discontinuous collage of boring mini-games. And for the PC user's sake... MOUSE SUPPORT!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is an adventure / fantasy film for the entire family!
aguila0220 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is an adventure / fantasy film for the entire family and is also an Oscar nominated film. It is about the trials and tribulations of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends at Hogwarts against the dark Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) and his dark followers. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is going against other wizards for the Tri-wizard cup; Somehow Harry's name manages to get in the cup without his knowledge. The tournament was intended for those who are 17 years old. Harry has a hard time during the challenges that make up the Tri-wizard cup. However, with the help of teachers and his friends, he makes it through but not without a cost. The story comes to ahead when Harry and Cedric (Robert Pattinson) touched the goblet only to find out that it is a port key that takes them to Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Harry Potter and his friends go through a lot of difficulty and hardship but they manage to get through it all with team work and trusting each other. Harry and Cedric thought that everything was over when they touched the cup but little did they know that it was just the beginning. During the drawing of the names for the competitors, three names were selected which should have been all of the competitors for the tournament. But a few moments later after the last name was thrown out of the cup, a piece of burned paper flew out of the cup with Harry's name that came as a surprise and disbelief to everyone in attendance. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are similar to the 2001 movie Lord of the rings. These movies are similar in reference to the themes because both films are based on friends working together and trusting in each other to accomplish a task and to do their best that no harm comes to anyone. Lighting and sound techniques used in the film will catch any viewer's attention. At the beginning of the maze the lighting and sound was subtle. It started off hazy and loud happy music. Then when the maze closed around the competitors you could no longer hear the joyous music and it turned to a solemn quietness. As the competitors continued through the maze, it became darker and the sound of the wind and the noises the maze actually made intensified. Once Cedric and Harry saw the Tri-wizard cup it got even darker and there was heavy thunder and lightning giving the viewers the thought and feeling that a dark twist to the movie was about to happen. Even through all the hardships and difficulties that Harry and his friends faced, they manage to make it through due to their strong friendship and the trust they put in each other, however it was not without loss.

Very short game and useless to buy the original game
sashank_kini-125 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Pros of this game:(ps2 version) 1)It was more darker than the previous games and had lots of creatures to fight.

2)The background music was creepy and scary and this made the game darker than its previous ones.

3)We could enhance our talents by playing and defeating the creatures in different levels of the game.

4)The game was interesting and was a bit hard in some parts, especially when the huge bee like insects attacked.

5)There were three people, Harry, Ron and Hermoine, to fight the creatures, which made the level easier. So if the player proceeds forward, the other two fight and defeat the creatures for the player.

Cons of the game: 1)Too short.I could complete it in three days.

2)Harry's voice was different and horrible in the game.It was not at all like his voice. In many parts, it sounded like Ron.

3)The artificial intelligence of the other characters was dumb.Sometimes, when the player performed an action where he needed the other two's help, the CPU characters did not do anything. It was after that the player stopped his action did the other two characters did the same magic. So it was frustrating to wait for their help for a long time.

4)No point of collecting the shields. THey were useless in the end and all the time taken to collect them became a waste.

5)The last levels were very easy and could be easily finished. All the creature fought in the previous levels, except for one, did not appear in the maze and the fight with Voldemort.

6)The last fight with Voldemort was silly as I did not even lose a life in the fight. There were no death eaters and creatures, but only stupid skeletons who were easily defeated.

7)The cost of the game in India for the ps2 version is Rs.2499 and the game, lasting only for three days, was not worth it at all.

8)The ride on the broomstick in the first triwizard task again the dragon was stupid and easy to finish.

9)The second task was too easy and tiring due to Harry's speed in the water and the length of the level.

10)Apart from Harry, Ron and Hermoine, nobody could be seen in the levels. No teachers, no students, no Cho as all the characters were only seen in the cut-scenes.

Overall, it is a bad game only meant for teens who have not played any games before. It deserves a 4 out of ten.

There are NO redeeming qualities for this game.
Buskieboy24 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Where to start? How about the fact that while it looks lush and inviting, the game levels can ONLY be played the way the maker, Electronic Arts has made them. There is no world here! This game has so many invisible walls, it ruins the game play. It's so bad that, you aren't allowed within 2 or 4 feet (in-game scale) of an edge of a ledge or forest or steps etc. The walls actually hinder your movement!

After a while you feel as if you're in a track and following it around the levels, doing what needs to be done and when you do, don't worry the game will whisk you back to the main page for some boring card purchases/attributing etc. The constant back and forth is bad enough but the save/loading is brutal! I timed myself and from start of the titles to actual game play took 9 minutes!! Terrible!

The collector card system is OK, until you realize you can only use 3 cards at a time with no combinations to increase you skills abilities. Why have a limit? Why not allow a progressive accumulation of ability and special actions etc? This might have made it more interesting. You could have had very rare cards awarded for good game play or beating hard levels etc. But none of this matters, as the game play is repetitive to the Nth degree and is frustrating to the max!

The game boasts a camera button. HA! If you toggle the right analog stick the "camera" sways back and forth or side to side, with NO, I repeat NO way to look around, behind up or down! This is ESPECIALLY frustrating when trying to use the idiotic "aiming" system. Trees, hills and boulders get in your way and your line of sight, making it impossible to shoot anything with any kind of accuracy. UGH! The AI in this came is insane! My cats could do better! The other two AI controlled characters are, in a word, miserable! This is bad, why you ask? Well, in order to do some of the tasks, you have to work together casting spells, killing monsters etc. This is NOT good when they act like idiots, looking around, wasting time. Some of the bonus games to earn more beans DEPENDS on solid team efforts, but are constantly ruined by these moronic allies! Ugh!!!!!

A dull, repetitive and frustrating game with NO game-play value. All this game needs is a switch to tell it to play itself and it WILL!! Terrible, terrible game! This is sad, because the other games before it, while a bit childlike, were at least FUN to play, if easy. I LOVED flying around Hogwarts on a broom, through rings in the air. I loved flinging gnomes, finding stuff, exploring all the rooms, talking to other characters! But ALL of that stuff is gone bye-bye in this game. It gets so frustrating that after a while you don't care anymore and you would probably throw it in the back of a drawer somewhere and forget about it. The CD would make a funky coaster, maybe.......*sigh*

An overall disappointment
bisbeek12 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I had played all three of the previous Potter games for PC, and enjoyed them, to only slightly varying degrees. I received this game shortly after it came out. I was looking forward most to exploring Hogwarts, seeing what changes had been made in its structure; I was familiar with the changes between previous castles. I had been checking the website every few weeks, anticipating the game even more once I saw the quality of the environment and character graphics.

I was pretty upset when I started playing the game, first off by the lack of control over the camera, limiting not just ability to see the way you wanted to, but also the ability to see exactly where your character was walking. The environments were well done, but they only had five, not six sides (The floor, back wall, 2 side walls, and the ceiling composing the five - the sixth is the computer screen), making it almost like a sitcom set sometimes.

As I said, the environments were well done, especially the Hogwarts exterior shown in the dragon level. However, there was no Hogwarts free roam, no real exploration, or direct connection between areas, as I had grown to love in the previous games. There were just areas that you selected from a main menu, and replayed, to collect 'upgrade cards' and defeat more enemies with a spell-casting system that was too complicated.

The 'videos'? They were awful! Not even videos- just 2-D, unmoving characters in front of hazy, blurry 2-D backgrounds, with voice-overs that gave little insight into what was going on - worse even than the graphics of the first game cut-scenes- and that by a landslide.

All in all- good game-play graphics, but everything else was a turn in a very wrong direction. Don't bother buying it.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
delaneygrune14 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
There are many great movies in the world, but one of the best movies is Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire. The fourth Harry Potter movie is great because the movie storyline was very close to what was written in the book. Moreover, the special effects were very good too, it had the transcendent special effects out of the first four movies of the Harry Potter series. Most importantly, a lot of the actors in the movie played and fit their characters perfectly. Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire is a wonderful movie.

Furthermore, since what was written in the book was very close to the movie storyline it made the fourth Harry Potter movie a great movie. For example, in this Harry Potter movie is about how Harry's name mysteriously gets put into the Goblet of Fire, whoever's name gets pulled out of the goblet is now in the Triwizard Tournament. Harry's name mysteriously gets put into the Goblet of Fire because Harry never put his name into the goblet, he is not yet of age. Harry competes in the tournament and wins, later Harry soon finds out that one of Voldemort's followers put Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire, hoping he would die. Even though that this is only a diminutive summary of the movie, there is indubitably much more action and adventure. After someone sees one Harry Potter movie then those people cannot wait until the next movie.

Additionally, Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire is a tremendous movie; there was amazing special effects. Special effects plays a big part in this movie and most likely in every movie. The special effect plays a big part in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire and all of the Harry Potter movies because the Harry Potter movies include a lot of magic, sorcery and mythical creatures. Overall, special effects are mandatory in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.

Although, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is a wonderful movie in some people's perspectives, some people do not like it. Maybe those people do not like it because they do not like how the movie can be somewhat intense and scary at some times. Another possible reason why some people don't like the fourth Harry Potter is because they do not like the magic in the movie or the storyline. It is possible that some people may not like Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.

Additionally, most of the actors that were in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire were amazing and fit their role perfectly. The main people that fit their role perfectly were Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Ron Weasely, Hermione Granger. Draco Malfoy is played by Tom Felton, Tom is supposed to be a bully and have very blonde hair, people can tell this because in the quote "Twitchy little ferret, aren't you Malfoy?" Said Hermione, Tom fit they role wonderfully. Harry Potter is played by Daniel Radcliffe, Daniel is portraying a boy with dark shaggy hair and is very unique, he portrayed his role amazingly. Ron Weasely who is played by Ruper Grint, Ruper has orange hair(like Ron) and has to play Ron, who is a clumsy, less wealthy boy, Grint played this role incredibly. Lastly, Hermione Granger who is played by Emma Watson, Hermione is said to have long brown hair, bucked teeth and is very smart, Emma played this role shockingly well. All of these actors were amazing.

In conclusion, there are many prodigious movies in the world, but Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is one of the best. One of reasons why Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is that the storyline in the movie was very close to the book. A few more reasons is that the movie has very good special effects and great actors. Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire became such an amazing movie because of the actors, especially Daniel Radcliffe, it is also amazing because of the director Mike Newell and most of all because of J. K. Rowling, who became the first millionaire for writing books. Overall, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is a wonderful movie.

Harry Potter is alive in this fantastic game
JoseCarlosPereiraFan22 July 2019
I had a great time playing this game. It is a good game and it is realy like the main history of the movie with the same title Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The main goal is collect beans and explore through the castle and forest and make spells like "Galinhus" and "Wingardium Leviosa" to destroy creatures to progress in the game. When we are exploring we can play in a two player mode and we can choose between Harry, Ron and Hermione. The only time when is need just one player we need to play with Harry and was during the levels of the tasks of the tournment. I really likes the last level that was a final battle with Lord Voldmort and he says to Harry: "Now you dont have your mother to save you" and "I want to see the lights abandonad your eyes" but Harry wins in the last moment.

Where did the story go?
donald14727 April 2018
I loved the first game, really like the 2nd & 3rd, but I hated this crappy piece of garbage! The first 3 games have you basically following Harry's story as you explore Hogwarts, learn spells, and get to know your fellow students. Unfortunately EA completely changed up this game & lost the plot altogether. I never made it to the tri-wizard tournament as I couldn't get past all the monsters you constantly have to fight within the school.
