Looking for a song played in this episode
waihow21 August 2006
Actually, this is not about film comments, although I do love the idea that everyone, particularly the wife and the husband, should be allowed to have time of their own daily.

But I'm more interested is a song which I heard more than 15 years ago, but have never got to know its name. This song was played on the ending scene when Raymond was alone in the living room (trying to cry), he turned on the radio and then it played this lovely slow song (later on Raymond turned to other station and it played a quick song which Raymond tried to 'dance' with the tune). I didn't catch the name of the song and one sentence of the lyrics seemed to be '.... in the eye of love...'.

If possible, could anyone who happens to know that lovely song tell me the name of the song, the singer and the lyrics?

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours sincerely,

waihow

Very funny! Debra cries, Ray dances...
PudgyPandaMan21 January 2009
Ray catches Debra bleaching her "cookie duster" (mustache). She freaks out and tells him she never has any privacy. So she tells Ray she needs alone time at the house. She asks Ray to take the kids to his mom's house so she can have a break. When he gets to his parents house, they assume they must be having marital problems if Debra wants to be alone.

Ray starts to believe them so he goes back home to spy on Debra through the window. To his dismay, she is on the sofa crying with a box of Kleenex - and the TV is off. He freaks out and goes back to his parents. He realizes he can't say anything to Debra because she will know he was spying.

So he goes back home and offers to help with chores. He says he realizes he hasn't been a good husband. Debra acts like she doesn't know what he's talking about. Finally, he slips up and she realizes he saw her crying. She explains that nothing's wrong - that she LIKES to just have a good cry every now and then. That its cathartic. He thinks she's crazy.

Then she tries to get him to cry. It's hilarious. She relives Allie's birth - no reaction from Ray. Then she reminds him how his parents gave his dog away in 5th grade - he gets mad, but still no tears.

The show closes with Ray sitting on the sofa playing the same song Debra listens to when she feels like crying - the theme from ICE Castles. He sits there and tries to make crying faces. What a hoot! He finally gives up and switches the stereo to "Soul sister" and starts to dance - as only an uncoordinated white man can!! One of my favorite episodes!

No Crying Time For Ray!
jmsfan15 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite episodes ever, where Ray cruelly but hilariously makes fun of Debra when he walks in on her waxing her "mustache" in the bathroom and she goes off on him for not giving her privacy. She rightly tells him about how she never has any privacy, what with him barging in on her, taking care of the kids all day, and especially his parents over ALL THE TIME. He tries to understand but all through the episode takes shots at her having a "soup strainer" on her lip. Insensitive yes, but also hilarious because that's one of the reasons we love Ray.

Ray goes to his parents and of course blabs about Debra having a "mustache." Nobody can keep a secret on this show and it results in hilarity! Ray goes back home, spies through his own window on his wife and sees her sitting on the couch, crying. With no television on, he thinks she's crying for no reason. After she gets over being mad for him spying on her, she explains that she likes crying every once in a while, that it's cathartic, which Ray responds to by saying that they need a dictionary in the bedroom. She tries to get him to practice crying to get things out of his system which he cannot do. He laughs. That scene never fails to make me fall out laughing. She explains that playing the Theme From "Ice Castles" (Through the Eyes of Love---by Melissa Manchester) and listening to it makes her cry.

In the end, one of the most classic scenes in all of "Raymond" is Ray trying to cry on the couch listening to the same song and he just can't. He gets up and changes the song to "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle and goes into a kooky dance that has to be seen to appreciate. Let's just say it's beyond awkward but it's hilarious! The whole episode is great but the end is the cherry on top. Highly recommended.
