In 'Scary Tales Can Come True,' the Three Bears kill Goldilocks. An early version of the story ended with the main character being killed by the bears.
The witch in the "Scary Tales Can Come True" segment claims to have a boyfriend named George Cauldron. This is a reference to the famous "Brady Bunch" episode The Not-So-Ugly Duckling (1970), where Jan Brady has a make-believe boyfriend named George Glass. However George Cauldron, unlike George Glass, turns out to be a real person and not just a made-up name.
This is the first Treehouse of Horror episode to be released in November.
When the townspeople walk outside after the meeting, the dolphins are all standing there, reminiscent of Hitchcock's "The Birds" (1963). This same gag was previously used with babies in Season 4's "A Streetcar Named Marge."
The opening segment is a takeoff on the title sequence for 'The Munsters.' Lisa's casting as Marilyn Munster is fitting as both characters are outcasts within their families.
