Chikorita has been acting up lately and Ash needs help to figure out what's wrong...
After hinting at it for the past several episodes, we finally address Chikorita's growing jealousy of Pikachu in this episode. I actually like this premise for an episode, considering Ash has never been shy about who his favourite Pokemon is, regardless of how innocent he feels he is. I appreciate the lead-up to this storyline. It wouldn't feel out of the ordinary for the show to just spring this jealousy on us out of thin air, but instead they planted seeds of it growing as we approached this episode. Because of that, this jealousy felt real and honest.
Team Rocket doesn't show up until very late in the episode, but they bring out their new mech...some sort of tire monster. I am enjoying the full commitment to ridiculous mechs at this point in the season.
Other highlights from this episode include Chikorita running away and earning the respect of a bunch of tough Fighting Pokemon, Ash's line of "No, not Envy! I told you, we were fighting a Raticate!" gave me a good laugh, and the nice moment at the end of Pikachu on one shoulder and Chikorita on the other.
