Great enactment of what an outbreak of Ebola might be like
r_seeley7719 March 2013
I copied this off TV onto VHS when it appeared on cable TV and used to show it to classes in the local high schools and it scared the bejeezus out of the students because of its fast-paced and hard-nosed dramatization of what an Ebola or similar viral outbreak might be like. It also scared the crap out of me with it's realistic presentation and good grasp of the facts regarding viral transmission and the way a hemorrhagic fever reduces the human body into a zombie-like quivering mass of bloody pulp and instantly infectious tissue. The story follows the trail of transmission of the virus from its jungle reservoir into the body of an American soldier on a top secret mission who then returns to the USA with a hangover-like "fever", which quickly evolves into the full-blown symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus. Anyone who comes into contact with the infected soldier is instantly doomed to suffer the same fate since there is no treatment and no cure and the virus is virtually 100% fatal within days or weeks at most. Even the hospital emergency staff is not spared and a loved one is usually the first link in the chain of disease transmission due to intimate contact with the carrier...a very frightening and realistic docu-drama...
