Bender becomes pharaoh
Tweekums8 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After committing a robbery at the local swimming baths Bender enthusiastically watched the news on television awaiting his moment of glory... then the thief is described as human! Bender is distraught that his escapade has gone unnoticed. He sinks into a depression so his co-workers stage a 'living funeral' for him so he can hear their eulogies and learn how much he meant to them... he is not impressed with what they have to say. Their next delivery takes them to the planet Osiris IV where they find themselves enslaved and forced to build a monument to the pharaoh. When an accident causes the death of the pharaoh Bender sees an opportunity and manages to get himself made the next pharaoh. His friends may have expected there time as slaves to be over but rather than releasing then Bender orders the slaves to build a huge monument to himself to ensure that he is never forgotten. Once it is completed he worries that people will remember the statue rather than him so orders that it be taken down again... at this point his high priests decide they have had enough of him and entomb him under his monument along with Leela and Fry; if they are to escape he will have to destroy the monument!

This isn't the best episode in the series but it does have plenty of good laughs and we do get to see Leela in a rather fetching slave girl costume! Highlights include the demolition of a building that Bender has just defaced changing the meaning of his graffiti to make him the butt of a rather unfortunate joke, the return of The Australian Guy, last seen in 'How Hermes Requisitioned his Groove Back' and Zoidberg's rendition of 'Danny Boy'. Having a planet based on ancient Egypt could be considered a bit of a weak point but they were able to justify it without spending too long explaining it; besides it worked in 'Stargate' and that wasn't even playing it for laughs!
