Beware of Amazons. "Path of Vengeance" is among one of the coolest Amazon episodes (second only to "To Helicon and Back").
I loved the diversity of the Amazons from all over the world, with a wide variety of casting (always a strong point on "Xena") and the costume design.
The episode finally upgraded Varia from a whiny Amazon to a kick ass queen, which everyone was waiting for with an actress as cool as Tsianina Joelson. Not only did Joelson get to demonstrate her stunt fighting ability, but she got to flex some real dramatic muscle as well.
This was Wilkinson's final episode of "Xena" thankfully The Powers That Be let her finish off with some really great Livia scenes. Even the Eve scenes were written better than previous episodes, giving Wilkinson a better range to play in. A good final performance.
"Path of Vengeance" also marked the last 'present day' episode for Kevin Smith (his final episode "Soul Possession" was set during season four and in the future). Ares was in full traditional form, and it was a nice finale for him, especially since it sadly ended up being one of his final performances before his tragic death in 2002. You were a true talent, Smith.
