- In a joking manner, Mulder tells Scully that the best way to preserve body heat in the outdoors at night is to crawl nude into a sleeping bag with someone else, also nude. Scully jokingly reminds him that they have no sleeping bag.

- This episode is one of the most frightening episodes of the entire show. It contains several jump scares and extremely frightening scenes in dark areas.

Violence & Gore
- Scully falls into a cave full of bodies, some practically mummified. These, of course, have no blood. The other bodies are intact, only cut and scraped. Some are quickly revealed to still be alive, and are rescued.
- A surveyor accidentally stabs a creature with a piece of equipment, drawing blood.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- The episode revolves around predatory humanoid creatures who are invisible, save for their glowing red eyes. Their bodies are only visible in the dark.
- A man sticks survey equipment into the ground, only to realize that there is blood on it. When he looks back at the ground, a pair of red eyes open in a jump scare.
- Several times, the camera zooms in on a tree or log, only for red eyes to appear, signifying that a creature is disguised there.
- In an extremely frightening sequence of events, a woman is led outside of her house by her dog, who senses something in the yard. When she doesn't find anything, she attempts to go back inside, only to find that the door is locked. Inside, her young son wakes up to find a humanoid creature with glowing red eyes at the end of a dark hallway. It gives chase, but does not catch him.
- When one of the creatures captures someone, they are quickly pulled into the ground, which can be surprising.
- Near the end of the episode, Scully falls into a cave full of bodies, some injured but still alive. She turns and sees a humanoid figure at the end of a tunnel, watching her. It eventually begins moving towards her, but she is able to shoot it before it can attack her.
- At the very end of the episode Scully and Mulder think there safe and good to leave that forest. But when there walking out of there motel room you can see one of the monsters under the bed. Signifying that there still out there somewhere.
