"A little Less Stringer, a Little More Mcnulty!"
pedroedro10 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode of the show. First of all from the first season there was something that it was surely missing , and that was Mcnulty being part of the team, yes I know he was appearing anyway, but not with the same impact and with the same purpose as before. Here we have a plot line showing Mcnulty's arc going full circle. In the begining we see Mcnulty at the bottom, ending with wrecking his car and having sex with a waitress (too easily in my opinion ahah) . We then see his plea to come back to the team, and when he does it's oh so satisfying. And in the end we see a connection between Mcnulty and Beadie and he doesn't try anything (althought it's kind of irrealistic that all the girls "want" Mcnulty, not that he is ugly, but c'mon, in the coffe house in the begining he looked more like a homeless). Stringer doesn't show up in this episode, you may see this as a little weird since it's the first episode where this happens, but I don't think it made any negative difference. Some may see Omar as the soul of this show, but if Omar is it's soul than Mcnulty is certainly it's heart. 8/10 ******** Peter Shelby

Another very good episode

Some key development to the docks case in this episode as well as some very well written humour. The one detractor from this episode for me is the somewhat rushed McNulty storyline although it did give Dominic West a chance to show off his acting chops. I really thought I wasn't going to enjoy this season as much as the first after a bit of a slow beginning but I have to admit the last couple of episodes have been excellent!

Warning: Spoilers
A very good episode. We FINALLY have McNulty back on the detail which was great to see because seeing him being a complete drunken mess and getting screwed by basically the first woman he sees (veeeery sus on her part btw). The detail made a lot of progress on the case this episode, and things are also getting pretty heated with the Barksdale crew. I like how they've managed to bring together most of the story so it's all connected. Now the only thing that isn't connected is the Barksdale crew, which right now does feel a bit stuck on. I'm quickly losing my interest in the projects and becoming more and more interested in the Greeks and their operation. Still though, this episode felt more like a season 1 episode and hopefully that continues for the remaining 4 episodes

Justified paranoia

Warning: Spoilers
In the previous episode Beadie Russell understood that to tap certain phones having a possible case of people selling women is simply not possible, or you have case of people selling drugs or better stop asking for a wiretap. The detail will bring Rhonda Pearlman back and now is time for going with a judge, clean some windows (loved that stuff!) and get the approval for the wiretap.

I want to mention some of the reasons why I'm sure you will smile, laugh with this episode, there you have Bunk saying the difference between McNulty with a case and McNulty without a case, Ziggy bringing his attorney (a duck he bought!) to drink with the stevedores, Frank saying to the police that he is not quite sure that his people don't steal dippers at the docks or McNulty's attempt to turn a corner without crashing, in this episode we see many characters smiling, is an episode in which things go fine for Daniels and company, and hell even for Jimmy McNulty (the previous episode almost was the very first episode of the Series without McNulty, but he has some minutes near the very last moment of that episode, not a good time for him and in this hour Bunk simply sees his pal at the bottom, the worst time for McNulty, he wishes a case and he will be rescued from the boat, a good police will be back to a real case but wait, what about Rawls? you may be wondering, well now if Daniels wants to kiss Rawls' tits Rawls will allow Daniels to do that but for the misfortune of Rawls Daniels don't want to kiss anything, he just want McNulty in the detail he commands). Daniels and company will smile since this time they aren't working on Westside criminals that do expect they are hearing their phone conversations and since they will know the phone number of the boss, the stevedores will have a fun time with Ziggy trying to beat Maui and with Ziggy's duck, but anyway my title refers to Frank's paranoia, for a couple of details he knows nothing is right, in short he and Nick will meet with the Greek (Nick will know that the old man he usually sees at the café is actually the Greek) which is nothing good for the detail

What the **** did I do?

This is another great episode with superb character development and plot intrigue.

McNulty is centre stage from the opening scenes of drunken debauchery. The character is brilliantly written, with major low points and rays of hope that carry the viewer on the little rollercoaster that is his arc. Dominic West is on incredibly good form, performing some of the best screen drunkenness I've ever witnessed.

The Sabotka detail is starting to get very interesting with the police heavily tapped into the wheelings and dealings of the dockers union, and certain aspects starting to feel a bit out of place. The casework scenes are starting to develop good momentum now.

I like Ziggy and the wing-clipped duck that works as a nice little metaphor for a rigged system that keeps the likes of him in his place, whilst the others hold all the strings. Similar can be said of McNulty and anyone whose life is heavily dictated by others.

The humour in strong as ever, with some great exchanges between numerous characters. Herc and Carver have their moments, Rawls has a funny cameo, Bunk entertains his lacrosse tracksuit, and the banter regarding a certain undercover operation is priceless.

I love the visuals in this one and there are numerous great moments of cinematography and editing that work so well. If I had to pick a standout moment it would be one scene where a character is snooping around someone else's house like a true detective sussing who they are and it concludes brilliantly.

West is the easily the star of 'Duck and Cover', but Chris Bauer, James Ransone, and Wendell Pierce are great too.

For me it's a 9.5/10 but I round upwards.

Great episode of a great show

Greetings from Lithuania.

Episode 8th called "Duck and Cover" was another very good episode in a great season so far. I highly enjoy the main storyline in here - it's real, gritty and very interesting one. Writing was as usual terrific and combined with great acting and solid directing this is a brilliant show.

Overall, season 2 so far with 4 episodes still left is a great one. The characters, story and especially writting is what elevates this show above a premise. It's a terrific in every way and I simply can't stop watching it and praising it enough. I really looking forward for what's coming next.
