The Josh Problem
Sonatine9722 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The two major story arcs - the military space shuttle leak, and the Santos campaign for Democratic nominee for president - really begins to twist and turn, making for a captivating 40 odd minutes.

Again, the episode mostly revolves around the unravelling of Josh as he tries to micromanage nearly every aspect of the campaign while also keeping an arm's length away from the White House leak enguiry.

Fortunately, we are introduced to a new character in Lou Thornton, as the new Communications Director for the Santos campaign. She is another no-nonsense woman in the same vein as Mandy and Amy, and who isn't afraid to get in Josh's face to tell him where he's going wrong with his strategy.

They bicker and argue, and often Josh is placed on the back foot, but it makes for exciting TV because the campaign look certain to fail because of the leak, and how the White House is prepared to wreck Santos' very own education plan with something far more palatable to Congress.

It is also interesting how Josh wants to be play the defensive line compared to Lou's more all-out attack, much like the analogy with the "Mommy Problem" where Democratic voters want a Mommy government to give them jobs, health and welfare; whereas Republicans prefer a Daddy government that focus on national security and a strong military for defence.

And now that the leak enquiry has been voluntarily taken out of the hands of the White House and given to an "independent" Congress, it means that everyone within the West Wing is under investigation, including Toby, Margaret and CJ.

So the screw is slowly beginning to turn rather tightly on who the leaker was.
