Left Hand and Right Hand

Warning: Spoilers
An enjoyable episode, and quite frankly a pertinent one given how maintaining social security for future generations will be the Achilles Heel for many western governments in the real world.

Had it not been for the president's wish to keep Toby's plan secret, even from the likes of Josh, Leo and CJ, then it may well have worked out. But clearly what we have is a right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing (Or as Senator Gaines said to Toby "Either you're lying, or the left hand doesn't know what the far-left hand is doing!")

And its because of this confusion within the White House, the plan goes awry., leading to Toby having to (almost) fall on his sword until a last-minute deal was worked out and agreed by all parties.

The minor storylines in the episode were barely memorable, other than CJ's brief flirtation with the Argentinian ambassador. We also see more of Rena, Toby's assistant, as she helps him with some research papers. It's a shame Rena didn't become a season regular because she could have been a welcome addition had the writers developed the character more.

But the episode is all about Toby and his passion for making sure social security will remain the safety net for all current and future generations.
