You're really going to be teaching the seminar on call girl caution?
robrosenberger28 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
And...fare ye well, Sammy Seaborn. Rob Lowe's last appearance before departing to, um...DR. VEGAS (and the ten episodes they produced prior to cancellation). And then BROTHERS & SISTERS, which someone must have watched, as it lasted some number of seasons. One last sweet scene with Toby, by his side as he prepares to get creamed in the election. Josh dismisses Abbey's attempts at legislative input, so she hires Amy as her chief of staff. Jed sends troops to stop the genocide in Kundu. Three American soldiers are captured; he and Leo have some touching scenes with their relatives (including Carrie Snodgrass - PALE RIDER), as they wait for news.

Solid episode but one moment of terrible exposition
Prometheus-1012 July 2023
This is another solid episode in a very strong season. I felt compelled to write this though to highlight one moment of exposition that is just really sub par. There's a moment in the situation room when someone mentions that a CIA "wet team" will be going on a rescue mission. The President asks why a wet team, the location is no where near water. It's explained that wet team is the term used when a mission is expected to get bloody.

So yeah. It is totally inconceivable that a President in his fourth year of office would not know that term. Add to that this is President Bartlet who is intellectually gifted and preternaturally attentive to detail and it's even more unbelievable. A weak moment, then. Sorkin did this a few times over the seasons, making Bartlet ignorant of things he wouldn't have been, just because he needed to have some exposition at a critical moment, but this was a particularly egregious example and not for nothing but I would bet the farm on him cringing if he sat through and listened to that line today. Sorkin is a genius but that moment always reminds me he's human too.

Farewell Sam
studioAT13 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's farewell to Sam Seaborn in this episode, and sadly that means the show parts ways with Rob Lowe, who must surely have known he'd never get material like this again.

I can understand that he was frustrated though, as his characters role had reduced with Josh becoming the break out character, but that didn't make it harder to say farewell, especially as I was never keen on Josh Malina's replacement character.

There is a lovely sweet scene between Sam and Toby before he goes though, and displays all the great qualities of Aaron Sorkin's writing.
