- Indian captive Caroline Casteel is traded to a man who brings her to the wagon train. She encounters prejudice and hostility from many of the train members. But her biggest hurdle comes when her family, who had long given up hope, arrives.
- Traveling trader Samuel Schofield breaking up a fight between Ute women notices that one woman is blonde and white. As she asks him for help, he notices a locket she is wearing. He asks her if she knows the name Caroline Casteel to which she nods yes. He strikes a deal to buy her from the Ute brave who owns her and takes her to the wagon train for protection. Duke meets him while scouting the Ute hunting party. Duke returns to the wagon train with the news that Caroline Casteel has been found. Chris sends Duke to Lincoln Center for her husband Frank who has offered a sizable reward for her return and is one of the wealthiest men in the region. The crew of the wagon train along with several women work to make Caroline welcome. However, many of the men and especially the women show their hostility toward Caroline for living with the Indians and their hatred of Indians. Frank Casteel and his son Jamie return with Duke to the wagon train. Frank thinking his wife was dead finds it hard to accept the changes in Caroline and especially the thought of what she lived through. A sickness hitting many of the children including Jamie shows the people's disdain of Caroline's belief in tribal cures which adds to the pain of a secret she has.—Anonymous
