The Colonel has to deal with a real jerk in this one!
planktonrules20 September 2021
In this episode, the Allies are worried because the Germans have come up with a new and improved radar system. So they plan on doing a commando raid to try to capture the radar equipment...with fighter planes and bombers supporting the raid. There are two problems. First, the commando leader, Captain Deel (Harry Guardino) is a real jerk and Colonel Gallagher has had personal dealings with him....and he has to put his hatred of Deel aside for the good of the mission. The second problem is that there is a spy about who also might jeopardize the mission, as he's relaying info to the Germans.

This is a pretty good episode and there was only one part that didn't ring true. During the raid, Colonel Gallagher flies a P-51 fighter. Bomber pilots did not just hop into fighter planes (and vice-versa) since they were so different. Perhaps a colonel could have flown both...but he wouldn't have been very good at flying a type plane that he wasn't trained to fly. It would be akin to having a motorcycle driver try his hand at driving an 18-wheeler or a boat.

B-17s scoring direct hits on ships?

Warning: Spoilers
I don't find it unbelievable that an experienced military flyer could pilot both a B-17 and a P-51, especially when the P-51 was used only for observing.

I do find it hard to believe that B-17 bombs were hitting mobile warships. At the Battle of Midway.15 B-17s attacked Japanese carriers but got no hits.

A pretty good episode, with Michael Rennie playing a British officer. Harry Guardino plays an irresponsible American officer. Also the postman is a German spy. In spite of all the Gallagher thinks up an effective plan to steal the new German radar technology and destroy the bunker containing it. A commando raid.
