"Runaway in the Dark" is a very confusing episode and the writing sure could have been better. While the show was about the German Deuterium production in Norway ('heavy water' needed for nuclear production), it really misses the mark and goes off in directions that simply made little sense. It's a shame, as the episode wastes an excellent supporting actor, Albert Paulsen.
The episode finds Gallagher doing a mission which in reality would NOT be done by one of his B-17s. Normally, a small Piper-type plane or perhaps a C-47 would have done the duties, as it's not a bombing mission but a mission to pick up a Norwegian insurgent who is beloved by his countrymen. But when the man insists they not only take him but his young son, the Colonel is immediately convinced this patriot is a fraud. What's next? And, should you really care? Probably not.
