There is an outtake where Amanda Tapping (Carter) breaks the fourth wall when berating Richard Dean Anderson's character (O'Neill) for not knowing how to get out of their predicament even though he (the actor) was MacGyver. Anderson, of course, was already famous as the star of MacGyver (1985), in which his character always found ways out of danger using unconventional and resourceful means. This outtake is included in the Season 1 DVD extras.
For Samantha Carter's closeups on the snowy plateau of Antarctica, Amanda Tapping and a 2nd unit filming crew shot her scene at the Pemberton Icefield, located in the Coast Mountains, British Columbia. The wide shot of Captain Carter had a digital Antarctic landscape added to the scene in post production.
