Borg and Species 8472
Tweekums9 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The crew of the Voyager may be stuck in the Delta quadrant far far from home but in this episode they come up against one of the most fearsome enemies that had been previously encountered by the Enterprise in the Alpha Quadrant, namely the Borg. Previous encounters had been with single cubes but as Voyager is attempting to cross the Borg's home territory it finds itself facing fifteen of them. If that wasn't bad enough it appears that there is another species there, a species that is capable of destroying the Borg cubes with little difficulty. Thoughts of an alliance with these creatures are short lived however when it emerges that they are extremely xenophobic and wish to exterminate all other life forms. This leads Janeway to think the unthinkable and propose an alliance with the Borg.

This is one of the best Voyager stories featuring memorable enemies, a tense visit to a Borg cube and as the words "to be continued" appear on the screen one is left thinking they are in real danger, especially one of the crew who has become infected after contacting one of the creatures

Alliance
Hitchcoc28 August 2018
This is the inevitable encounter with our old friends, the Borg. Janeway is faced with the hardest decision of her career. In order to get through Borg space, she feels she must ally herself with the collective. To her advantage is the fact that the Borg themselves are facing an enemy that could annihilate them. After all the Next Generation encounters, can our Captain make this work. This is the final episode of Season 3 and is left be determined in Season 4. Most of the crew thinks Janeway is off her rocker for proposing this, but the Borg space is huge and would add years to the journey home.

One of the best episodes of the series

Warning: Spoilers
Arguably one of the best episodes out of the series, along with part 2. The crew of Voyager encounter Borg space but soon realize that the Borg are being invaded by a more dangerous enemy from another realm, species 8472. Janeway forges an alliance with the Borg. The conditions are that the Borg will give Voyager safe passage through Borg space, and Voyager will help the Borg defeat its new nemesis. In the end, Janeway is beamed onto a Borg cube to help develop technology to sabotage species 8472. 8472 ships destroy a Borg planet, and the cube is forced to go to warp with Voyager traveling alongside. This episode is great because it involves the Borg, but the Borg are not trying to assimilate everyone.

You KNOW you're in deep trouble when you come into a part of space where the Borg are running at full speed to avoid some unforeseen enemy!!

Warning: Spoilers
Generally, the best episodes of the Trek franchise involved violence. I know this isn't the enlightened Gene Roddenberry idealized way of looking at the future, but too often shows ended up being too cerebral and too PC--so seeing some violence and fighting often comes as a welcomed relief.

When this episode begins, Kes' spider senses are tingling--something BAD is coming! Soon, the ship encounters Borg cubes. However, these 15 or so cubes have no interest in Voyager and quickly fly right past the ship! Obviously they are afraid of something--and it's hard to imagine anything worse and more dangerous than the Borg!! What is coming?!

After Voyager contacts the scary as crap aliens, they realize that they need to do something drastic, but Chakotay is NOT happy with the Captain's decision to try to make an alliance with the Borg. But what other options do they have?!

This show is exciting from start to finish--and it shows that violence, bloodshed and war is pretty cool...at least in the Trek universe!

One of the best episodes of the series

Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Star Trek but I believe pretty much anyone would like this two part episode. Janeway can be annoying at times because of her stupidity, but in this one you see her at her best because she knows what the crew's end goal is and she won't give it up easily. But what really holds this together is not just the introduction of Seven of Nine, but the role Chakotay plays in helping Janeway realize how dangerous the Borg really are. But Janeway knows that the Borg aren't the threat and that they might be next if they don't defeat Species 8472 here and now. I agreed with Janeway's decisions in this and the cliffhanger ending really makes you want to see what happens next.

Furthermore, the ending introduces one of the most popular characters in Seven of Nine. If you have seen any Borg episodes from Next Generation, you would know that the Borg aren't your typical star trek enemy. They are relentless and stop at nothing to add their victims distinctiveness to their perfection. Not only that, but their vessels are VERY difficult to kill and right away you see about 8 or so Borg vessels obliterated by an unseen ship. As the plot unfolds, you begin asking yourself, how will voyager defeat this new enemy?

Solid 10/10

Introducing 7 of 9

Warning: Spoilers
Well, here it is folks.

The moment that Star Trek Voyager's ratings doubled.

We get a whole bunch of action in this 2 part episode but they manage to weave in a subplot about overcoming differences to achieve goals as the means of Voyagers ultimate salvation from the Borg.

Species 8179 was at times interesting but I have to admit that I do not find the ultimate motivation of 'kill everyone because we are evil' to be satisfactory.

Overall, it has enough going on to be an engaging action/adventure show and it does bring a character brimming with conflict into the ensemble.

There's just much to cerebral nourishment in this one so it falls short of masterclass to me and veers into the 'good' territory.

S3 Overall --------------------------------------------- Well, I am sad to report that Season 3 of Voyager ended up getting a 6.84 out of 10 as an average review score. This puts it above TNG Season 1 as the second lower reviewed season up to the point.

It wasn't all bad and it had plenty of 7's and 8's peppered throughout. It was brought down by having eight of the twenty six episodes scoring 6 or less.

The best episode by far was the one with Torres telepathically living through the genocide of a species.

I have my personal tastes and my preference seems to lean towards episodes that have one major plot that concentrates on one character by using a sci fi backdrop.

Solid finish to a season and good set up
snoozejonc10 March 2023
Voyager reaches Borg-controlled space and encounters a double threat.

This is an intriguing end to the season that makes you want to find out what happens next.

The reintroduction of the Borg was a good idea at this point in Voyager's overarching narrative and the concept of another more deadly enemy heightens the threat. For me though, certain aspects of the story are resolved too easily.

There are some good character moments like the dynamic between Janeway and Chakotay, and the anxiety over commencing such a perilous part of the journey.

Katie Mulgrew and Robert Beltran are on good form.

There are some excellent visuals in this episode, particularly the moments involving the Borg cubes.

For me it's a a 7.5/10, but I round upwards.

HARRY KIM SUCKS

Warning: Spoilers
HARRY KIM SUCKS and is the worst primary character on STAR TREK : VOYAGER

HARRY KIM having 1 tear from his eye is a clear insult to CAPTAIN JEAN LUC PICARD in THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS when PICARD was assimilated

SERIOUSLY HARRY KIM SUCKS I loved it every time his character GOT HURT or DIED

too bad the internet was in it's infancy back in 1996

the fans could've started a HARRY KIM SUCKS site to petition the producers to KILL OFF HARRY KIM

Lost In Space
Bolesroor2 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
From the moment the episode begins, it's obvious that something is up. The tempo is changed, and there's a sudden sense of Purpose, and Urgency, while great liberties are taken with plot lines and characters...

Kes, who has all but faded out of existence, is suddenly back with a vengeance, her vaguely-defined and mostly-ignored powers suddenly turned up to eleven, for no particular reason other than setting up Jennifer Lien's exit. The Borg are back, just in time for the season finale, but more alarming is the appearance of a new, deadlier alien species.

In "False Profits" Janeway lost on opportunity to get home because she had to interfere with two small-time Ferengi hustlers... here she is willing to form an alliance- and share technology with- the Borg, all for a chance at getting home. Will the real Kathryn Janeway please stand up? In a bad process-shot Janeway visits the Borg ship for a cup of coffee and to beg for help. Not exactly Kirk, is it?

We end with a "To Be Continued," our characters morally-bankrupt, broken and helpless... adrift and alone... It reminds me of the "Rocky Horror" finale:

"And crawling

On the planet's face

Some insects called the human race

Lost in time

And lost in space

And in meaning..."

Overrated, tired old formula

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, how original, a Borg finale. A new alien species is introduced bent on destruction and able to destroy Borg cubes with ease, yet somehow unable to seriously damaged voyager. The aliens are completely uninteresting, fake 90s CG, something out of a B video game. Janeway decides on an alliance with the Borg, and that's the episode.
