When the Doctor is talking to Neelix about appearing on his morning program he says the topic he wants to discuss is: "The Klingon glottis, friend or foe?". The glottis is the space between the vocal folds in the trachea and is crucial in the pronunciation of vowels and consonants. As the vocal cords vibrate the size of the glottis (determined by how close together the vocal folds are) is the main way different vowels and consonants are pronounced, sounds that require the vocal folds to be pressed close together are called glottal sounds. When it comes to Klingons the Doctor is likely referring to how they use their glottis to make their famous, and to some terrifying, battle cry.
47-reference: when trying to analyze a file, Crewman Hogan uses Engineering authorization 'Omega 4-7', which Neelix applies later as well.
This takes place in 2372.
Jerry Sroka, who plays the Talaxian Laxeth, is the father of Ash Sroka (also known as Liz Sroka), who appeared in the Mass Effect (2007) series of video games alongside Michael Jonas actor Raphael Sbarge.
Abdullah II King Of Jordan: The then-Crown Prince of Jordan, a huge fan of the Star Trek franchise, asked the producers to let him appear at least once. He is seen playing a crew member in the sciences division in an early scene standing before Ensign Harry Kim just before Neelix appears to talk to Kim. Because he is not a member of the Screen Actors Guild he was not allowed to speak any lines.
