The original script mentions the Jem'Hadar shroud is similar to that employed by the Tosk. It also notes the Tosk were engineered as a gift to the Hunters as a reward for their loyalty to the Dominion, thus establishing the Hunters and Tosk were Dominion members. Robert Hewitt Wolfe confirms this connection.
This is the only time in the series where a Vorta (Eris) uses their telekinetic powers. Producer Ronald D. Moore stated in an online interview that Eris was given this ability by the Founders, either through further genetic engineering or using technology, for the specific purpose of helping her gain Sisko's trust and accomplishing her mission of being a spy upon being taken back to DS9; and that it is not a normal ability for the Vorta.
Jem'Hadar Third Talak'talan tells Kira that the Gamma Quadrant colony of New Bajor has been obliterated by the Dominion. Though never shown onscreen, New Bajor was previously referenced in "Crossover" (1994), as the episode begins with Kira and Bashir returning from helping to set up a medical facility there. It was only in existence a few months before being destroyed by the Dominion and its inhabitants slaughtered or captured.
This is the last episode to feature the 2360s combadges from Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and the first two seasons of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
The trade negotiations to which Quark refers began in Rules of Acquisition (1993), which was the first episode to mention the Dominion. Ira Steven Behr has said this was an intentional way of hinting at future events in an otherwise inconsequential episode. There was also an indirect reference in Sanctuary (1993) to the Dominion invasion of Skrreea, as well as in Shadowplay (1994).
