One of the best episodes of dramatic TV

It has been 24 years since I saw that episode of St. Elsewhere. I was surprised no one else has mentioned this particular episode.

The relationship between Cora and Arnie was heartbreaking. It was beautiful to see such caring between two people. While Arnie, may not have understood what was going on, he knew that he loved Cora. Both characters were amazing. Both actors in this story were indeed so gifted. James Coco left us too early. His passion for his art is seen in any of his work. As for Doris Roberts, there is nothing else that can be said about this remarkable woman. She is the one that drew me into Everyone loves Raymond. For me, it is Everyone loves Doris! As for St. Elsewhere, I am so happy to see that this is coming to DVD. I recently sold my collection of ER because it doesn't not match to St. Elsewhere. Now I am waiting for St. Elsewhere tomorrow!!

Still holds up as maybe the best episode of a very good series.

Years later(2021), this episode stands out, still. We've lost the guest starts Doris Roberts and James Coco, but I'd like folks to remember these two fine actors. Ms Roberts will always be remembered as Ray Barone's meddling mother in Everybody Loves Raymond-in fact, recent polls found that her character in the series was the most popular one. Still, she was cast well, she acted well in the episode, and the writing was super. James Coco was the other terrific piece in this episode. Television at its height.

Outstanding Acting and Human Tragedy

Doris Roberts steals the show. She knows her actions are a death sentence, but her love for James Coco is so strong and he needs her so much. It is a realistic conclusion based on real life. This series gets going right from the start. The kid bomber continues to show his psychoses and is certainly one of the most despicable characters ever to appear in a TV series. I won't say any more, other than this is classic writing and pacing.

This was a tender episode.

Believe it or not, somewhere in some box in the basement marked "Videos" that old fashioned medium, there is a copy of this episode. I used to love this show. It had it all. Great actors, who went on to win Oscars. Great writing which won Emmy awards. Great chemistry within the cast, that was evident. It was responsible for a lot of career enhancements. It also had superior celebrity guests in several episodes. BUT, this particular show was absolutely my favorite St. Elsewhere episode. It dealt with the less fortunate, the love between an older couple with a few disabilities and how the system of a hospital works when you are facing crises. This is one that you should not miss and will watch with your family for years. Doris Roberts and the late James Coco both received Emmy nods for their roles. You will never forget this show!
