Starvin' Marvin (#1.8)
ComedyFan201017 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is now a Thanksgiving episode that very well portrays the situation in the world. I am not a crazy social justice warrior but I loved the creativity of the portrayal.

We have Starvin Marvin come to South Park when boys decide to help a child by paying $5 just so they can get a watch. Here is us seeing people helping for their own good and not be willing to really help as Cartman doesn't really give the boy much food. Then when he ends up in Africa and is actually in trouble then he helps other Africans find the food that they got donated but never got to them.

Besides this we also have a more Thanksgiving like story with turkeys who may take over their city. Replaying some ancient battles.

Starvin marvin is a very funny episode of South Park.In this one, the boys want a sports watch advertised on TV, you get it when you sponsor an ethiopian child. They decide to but instead of the sports watch, they get an ethiopian. They call him Starvin Marvin, Cartman is sort of mean to him and will not give him any food.So when some men come and ask to take him back, they take Cartman instead.Cartman then stays in ethiopia and finds Sally Struthers has been hogging all the food! Meanwhile, the genetic mutation scientist from "Elephant Makes Love to a Pig", mutates turkey's making them evil(this plot was later used in the first person South Park video game for Nintendo 64, Playstation 1 and PC).In a spoof of Braveheart, the townspeople fight against the turkey's.Starvin Marvin is a classic Thanksgiving episode of South Park!

Maybe the GOAT episode of season 1-3. Solid top 10 of all time imo

Starvin Marvin. Classical South Park at its best and it's jabs at celebrities at best. The comedy is pure earlier South Park that's pacing doesn't drop or hit many bumps. While keeping the Earlier South Park beat, the episode also retains smart comedy and a small appropriate over arching plot that doesn't take it self to serious at any point; How it should be in this episode. An amazing episode and possibly the best earlier episode of South Park. I'd say best of pre season 4 and back. A must watch.

One of the best South Park episodes!
jellyneckr1 April 2006
The premiere of "South Park" in the summer of 1997 brought Comedy Central some of the biggest ratings that it has ever received. The show, about four eight-year-old boys and their misadventures in Colorado, was unlike anything that had ever been seen on television. It was tasteless, it was politically incorrect, and it was hilarious. During the first season, the hype and fan base of "South Park" grew larger and larger with every episode. By the time this Thanksgiving episode aired, the show was already considered the biggest television hit of 1997. This was the 8th episode of "South Park". Normally in the first seasons of shows, the first ten episodes is the creators trying to figure out what exactly their show is and what to do with it, but by this episode, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone already had a pretty good idea of what the show was. As a result, this is one of the better episodes of Season One and one of the best "South Park" episodes to air yet. The BRAVEHEART spoof towards the end of the episode is a definite highlight.

When one analyzes this episode, it becomes evident just how similar it is to Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving. Plot centered around elementary school kids? Check. Lesson in the end? Check. The only difference is this is definitely not for young kids. For everyone else though, Starvin Marvin' is perfect for watching around Thanksgiving time. My Grade: A

The 1st Thanksgiving Episode
Nolamoviedude15 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Mr Garrison: "Ok class can anyone tell me what a can drive is?" Cartman: "That's when they cut up a woman's stomach to get the baby out" Mr. Garrison: " No Eric. That's a Cesarean section. Remember there are not stupid questions, just stupid people"

This is how the episode starts during the 1st Thanksgiving episode. The 4 boys are soon watching tv and a commerical comes on with Sally Strothers telling people to feed the starving kids in Africa. She says anyone who donates will get a free sports watch. The boys really want the watch so they donate but delivered to them instead is Marvin the Ethiopian boy. They take Starvin Marvin to an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet. Cartman explains the process to Marvin. "We come here every Tuesday to eat for 6.99, except for Kenny's family because he's too poor. Why is your family poor Starvin' Marvin? Is your dad an alcoholic too?"

There's genetically engineered killer turkey's that eventually kill Kenny. Cartman is sent back to Africa instead of Marvin where he discovers Strothers' large supply of snacky cakes. Marvin kills all the turkeys and brings them back to Africa.

Tons of funny scenes

Unintelligible Ethiopian Clucks & Turkey Gobbles

This is one of those episodes you can't forget. The idea of the SP boys adopting a starving Ethiopian child is a memorable one. Although I completely forgot the episode also features an invasion by genetically modified turkeys. Mephisto gets way more screen time than I realised in season 1.

There are some genuine lols in this episode but overall it's pretty tame and doesn't do anything too clever with the premise.

Just a standard solid SP episode.

Sally Struthers is stunning in her short cameo.

Marvin? He's starvin?

One of the better episodes of season 1. Not too much to say here except that Cartman's personality shines through a lot earlier than I thought, and of course Mr. Marvin our starving African friend makes his first appearance. 7.8.
