The Truth About Professor Milton Fine
claudio_carvalho30 May 2007
While retuning home with Lois, Martha is hit by a flash of light followed by a thunder and contracts a lethal Kryptonian disease. Clark believes that Jor-El is charging for his resuscitation and asks for help to Professor Milton Fine. He discloses to Clark that Jor-El was a dictator in Krypton, who destroyed their great leader Zod first, and the planet later and sent Clark to Earth to dominate the world. Further, the salvation of Martha would only be achieved though the destruction of the Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile, Lionel convinces Chloe to investigate Professor Milton Fine and find who he really is. When Lois, feeling offended because Lex called her of "muffin peddler", meets Chloe, the double decides to visit the LuthoCorp., where the truth about Professor Milton Fine is revealed.

"Solitude" is one of the best episodes of this excellent Fifth Season of "Smallville". The naivety and pure heart of Clark once again jeopardizes him. The loyalty and skill of the snoopy Chloe once again saves his life. The love of Martha for him and the good advices of Jonathan show why Clark is such good person. Last but not the least, live your life to its fullest with those you love is the great message of this show. My vote is nine.

Who is responsible for Martha's sickness?
Rcwilkinson1231 December 2007
Clark Kent's mother Martha falls to a sickly ailment not from this world in the eighth episode of Season 5.

While outside the barn, Martha falls victim to a bright red light that causes a great sickness to come upon her. The doctors have no idea how to cure it, and it continues to get worse. Clark's Central Kansas U. world history professor Milton Fine, who is in fact Kryptonian, insists that it is Jor-El's doing, that he wants to destroy everything that Clark loves. Fine also tells Clark that Jor-El was an evil dictator on Krypton, intent on ruling the planet until he destroyed it, despite the attempts of the people's hero Zod to stop him. Fine tells Clark that Clark must destroy the Fortress of Solitude and rid of Jor-El forever to save his mother. But in fact, Clark learns that Fine reversed the story; Jor-El and General Zod had opposite roles, and Fine is Zod's minion who is trying to destroy Jor-El's memory and Clark's destiny and bring Zod to Earth. Clark realizes this in time to rid himself of Fine and his evil machinations... for now.

Throughout the "Smallville" series, some of the best episodes of the seasons have been the eighth, to excite the audience heading into a month of no new episodes. This episode was no different. We see the Fortress of Solitude for the second time, and come to know the truth about Milton Fine.

Clark(Superman) VS Prof. Fine(Brainiac)
egb500024 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Probably one of the best episodes of the show so far, Solitude starts out as basic and seriously cool. Martha Kent subdues a strange disease from a burst of unknown flash and is given only hours to live. Clark seeks out help to his college professor, who he believes is a kryptonian. (If you seen last episode Splinter, you know why.) Prof. Fine tells Clark that it was Jor-El who gave Martha the disease and was the reason for Krypton's destruction, and the only way to save his mother is to destroy the Fortess of Solitude!!!! But while Clark and Fine head for the Fortress, Chloe stumbled upon the real fact of Prof. Fine and needs to tell Clark ASAP. Meanwhile at the fortress, Clark is given a black crystal from Fine, who tells him to stab it to the console, and as Clark did, he is betrayed by Fine who only tells him he has freed General Zod, by opening a vortex through the phantom zone. While laying kryptonite on Clark, Fine looks at the vortex as Zod is about to pop up from the phantom zone, but then Chloe arrives at the FOS via kawatche caves and the octagonal key, and helps Clark by getting rid of the kryptonite. Afterwards Clark and Fine have a climatic battle, I don't want to spoil anything else so, watch the episode, it truly gives an inner circle of seeing a Superman VS Brainiac battle, from the comics.
