Introducing Flash... er, Bart Allen
Rcwilkinson1235 December 2007
The first DC Comics superhero besides Clark is in town in this great "Smallville" episode.

Clark and his father Jonathan are headed to the Sharks football game in Metropolis when a boy seemingly as fast as Clark steals Jonathan's wallet with the tickets, but saves him from getting hit by a car at the same time. Clark tries to discover who the boy is before they report the incident to the police. Clark finds Bart Allen, who uses his superspeed to steal others' things, including Jonathan's credit card for an apartment and living expenses. In fact, Bart has gone under other names such as Barry Allen or Wally West to conceal his thievery. Meanwhile, Lex, in his attempt to no longer be secretive but honest with Clark in an attempt to mend their friendship, shows Clark a 14th century manuscript from Russia, with in fact a map underneath that leads to an archive of unimaginable knowledge. Lex tells Clark that the Russian ruler Rasputin would spend hours looking at the manuscript, never able to find the map.

This episode is great for two reasons: first, that Clark meets another future superhero, and not just a meteor freak. Clark realizes that there are other people out there like him, and Bart's arrival reminds Clark that he does have a greater calling to to the gift of his abilities. Second, the map, containing Kryptonian symbols, leading to the mysterious archive of knowledge, is interesting.

A Fast Episode
kinetxs17 August 2006
This episode features a super-powered teen named Bart Allen. Although he is not given a super hero name nor is his family mentioned specifically, he is closely tied to the comic book character of Impulse. For those of you who are not familiar with this character, he is the original Flash's grandson from the comics.

In the comics Barry Allen's grandchild's name is Bart. So Bart Allen, but in the comics Bart inherited his powers from his grandfather. So judging from his age and his powers, we can assume that this is Impulse.

Hopefully we'll see more of this character. In the comics this character in now 20 something and might become the new Flash.

A Fast Episode
claudio_carvalho25 May 2006
While in Metropolis with Clark Kent, Jonathan Kent is saved from an uncontrolled lorry by a very fast teenager, Bart Allen (Kyle Gallner), who also pickpockets his wallet. When they arrive back in Kent Farm, Bart is there waiting for Clark. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor buys a worthy manuscript with inscriptions in kryptonian, and he shows the unique document to Clark. Lana Lang discloses the secret of her tattoo to her boyfriend Jason Teague.

"Run" is another reasonable episode of "Smallville". The lead plot seems to be stuck, going and coming back to the same point. I recall from other movies that the origin of The Flash is a laboratory accident where a scientist called Barry Allen, who is hit by a lightening, achieves the power of super speed. He uses his ability to fight crime. I believe that Bart Allen might be the same character, as indicated in IMDb, but this teenager is a juvenile criminal and therefore the origin of the superhero would be totally different from the other movies. My vote is eight.

The First "Super Friend"
izundar26 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode introduces the character of Bart Allen aka Impulse (The Flash) another well known and popular character of the DC Universe. Clark first discovers Bart and his lightening fast abilities when Bart saves his father's life in Metropolis. Unfortunately the super fast "hero" also relieves Jonathan of his wallet. When Clark tracks the thief down, he is pleasantly surprised to discover that Bart isn't who he expected to find at all. Rather than a hardened criminal it turns out the brash and sarcastic petty thief is actually a good kid who's life has been very difficult and isolated since receiving his super speed powers in an accident. This also the first time in the series we see a super powered character besides Clark himself that is not infected in some way by Kryptonite. Impressed with Clark's abilities Bart visits Smallville and charms his parents into letting him stay for a few days. Clark gently attempts to steer the would be hero in the right direction. At first Bart resists Clark's urgings but eventually discovers that there is more to himself that even he realized. Bart also encourages Clark to loosen up a little bit and enjoy his gifts for what they are even coercing Clark into an impromptu trip to Miama, FL. One of the highlights of the episode is the end sequence in which Bart and Clark make a bet that if Clark can catch Bart, Bart will stay in Smallville. They both take off at super speed and while it is strongly hinted throughout the episode that Bart is potentially faster than Clark, even Clark is shocked when Bart turns around while running, waves goodbye, and vanishes as a beam of light. Also in this episode Lex purchases an ancient manuscript covered with Kryptonian symbols and asks Clark's help to decipher them. Clark is of course able to read the symbols and after being prompted to by the document uses his X-ray vision and discovers what appears to be a map hidden beneath the surface of the illuminated page. Clark keeps this discovery to himself. Lex discovers the map on his own and also chooses to keep his discovery a secret. Bart/ Impulse later steals the document in an attempt to fence it but Clark intervenes and eventually convinces him to return it to Lex. Lex never discovers who stole his document but believes Clark had something to do with getting it back to him. This is my favorite Smallville episode of all time. Kyle Gallner's first appearance as Bart Allen/Impulse is a visually gratifying and well-written story. He is an amazing young actor. I have enjoyed his performance in every project he's been a part of so far.

I found this episode to be a delightful play on the greater DC Universe that the character of Clark Kent/Superman has traditionally inhabited. Impulse is the series' first nod to Clark's "super friends" who will one day form the Justice League of America. For me, the one aspect of the story that stands out the most is that it clearly demonstrates how much Clark's code of honor effects those closest to him. Many well known heroes in the DC Universe have vocalized their admiration for Superman, not just for his power but also how he chooses to be a servant when he could just as easily be a conqueror. His unshakable faith in the inherent goodness of other's is an inspiration to the entire world and is the most important virtue Clark possesses, the gift of his humanity. This is the stuff of which legends are made.

Awesome Episode! Nuff said!

Warning: Spoilers
I was never a big fan of Superman, yet I love Smallville and Christopher Reeve's Superman films, (screw Superman Returns, Routh is not Superman, Tom Welling is!!!!) I've never really gotten to know the Justice League, even though I grew up watching the animated series along with Superman, Spider-Man (who happens to be my favorite superhero), a little Batman (I hate him.) But, I love the way they are introducing the Justice League. Cyborg, Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman! Awesome! I just watched Aqua for my second time last night. The actors that are playing those characters are all great! This episode was insanely fun though. I never knew the flash was so fast. I thought it was hysterical when Bart beat Clark home. Clark comes into the house and Bart's sitting at the kitchen table drinking a glass of Orange Juice. He remarks, "Hey Clark, what took you so long?" LOL!!! Loved it! It's airing again tonight on the CW!!! The Martian Man Hunter is also going to show up. He's already had a cameo appearance in one episode, (can't remember which one though). If I could change one thing about the Justice League it would be: Get rid of Batman, him and Superman (Tom Welling) don't make a good team, too dark. Put Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire is the actor from the Spider-Man films.) In his place. Clark and Peter have teamed up on several occasions thanks to Marvel and DC comics. I'm writing a book about the Return of Superman (Welling, not Routh, Yuck!) and Spider-Man (Maguire) and them teaming up again and sticking together (Pun intended.) Watch this episode!
