Adam Brody (heart)

It was nice to see Adam Brody. I missed a lot. And yes the year is 2020 but I'm still watching Smallville.

Darker, Emotional Episode (Which has Adam Brody)!
gab-1471216 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Crush" is an episode about love and second chances. The love triangle between Clark, Lana, and Chloe is given lots of focus in this exciting episode. Yet, the overall story arch takes a darker turn with the arrival of villain-of-the-week Justin Gaines. This character allows Adam Brody to put in some great acting work. And someone who is not a villain bites the bullet and perishes. Not a main character, but a familiar one regardless. RIP Principal Kwan.

Justin Gaines is a teenager who loves to draw. After being hit by a car, he lands in the hospital. He becomes dysfunctional because he no longer has the mobility of his hands. He does, however, have the power of telekinesis. He uses the power to give his doctor a serious accident because he is "at fault." He returns to Smallville and begins to date Chloe. Chloe investigates the accident and discovers it was Principal Kwan who is at fault. Justin murders him, thus giving Clark a reason to stop him. Lex's nanny, Pamela Jenkins, returns to Smallville to ask Lex for his forgiveness for abandoning him after his mother died. Meanwhile, Whitney asks Lana for another chance as Lana is trying to keep the Talon in order.

Overall, this is a darker but highly entertaining episode. Several key deaths are at play here including Kwan and Whitney's father. The villain of the week is well-written and well-acted by Adam Brody. We see Chloe get mad at Clark. She mentions, in her charming way, that "all men are from Mars, but no idea where Clark is from." Love that subtleness. The episode does end on an emotional note with the funeral scene. Well worth the watch!

My Grade: A-

A little darker
Rcwilkinson12314 September 2007
Smallville's 19th episode gets a tad bit darker with the meteor freak Justin Gaines.

Justin is a student from Smallville High who loves to draw. However, he can no longer use his hands to do such a hobby, since they became dysfunctional after getting hit by a car. He is able to draw with his mind, however. For the second time in Season 1, Chloe has another love interest in Justin. Unfortunately for her, they are still guys who are mentally unstable with their mutations. It turns out that the driver of the car was Principal Kwan, as Justin avenges him. Clark's gotta stop this guy.

In addition, Whitney asks Lana if they can revisit their relationship. This comes right after Lex has given Lana extra grants on the Talon to keep the shop open after Lex had bought it from Lana's aunt.

Telekinesis, Triangle of Love and Forgiveness
claudio_carvalho8 April 2006
The teenager cartoonist Justin Gaines (Adam Brody) recovers in the hospital from a car accident with the power of telekinesis but problems with his hands. He believes his doctor was negligent, and he will not be able to draw again, so he provokes a serious accident with Dr. Christopher Wells (James Purcell). Justin returns to Smallville, dates Chloe Sullivan, who is upset with Clark Kent, making him jealous with the situation. Chloe decides to investigate to help Justin to find the driver that hit him without help. Meanwhile, the former Luthor's maiden Pamela Jenkins (Donna Bullock) comes to Smallville to ask Lex Luthor to forgive her.

I found "Crush" a very beautiful episode, in spite of having deaths and a dark accident. The triangle of love between Clark Kent, Lana Lang and Chloe Sullivan is very well explored in "Crush". The last scene in the cemetery, raining and with Eva Cassidy singing "Time After Time" is of extremely good taste and sensitive. My vote is ten.

A missed opportunity

Warning: Spoilers
The episode started great. A growing artist lost his hands, and his abilities to make his work again. His doctor admits that he did nothing to make him better, and even jokes about it. So he got a lot deserving death.

The next scenes are spectacular lesson in love-drama. Clark feels confused about his relationship with Chloe, Lana begins to fully realized that she love Clark too, and Chloe has one of the best kisses portrayed in screen.

But then the whole story falls apart. The artist doesn't really care about the love he's receiving unconditionally. And then he start to kill everybody, destroying his only way to get redeem and have peace in his life.

So, one of the best episodes of a TV series, started perfectly and then it CRASHED into the worst waste of time. The writers didn't care about a good story here, they lost control of the "gravitas" that "Crush" had in the beginning, with all the love-drama. And didn't have the guts to make a great ending of it.

They could have bring some love to Chloe, making her artist a controlled person, and not a freak. And they could have bring some love Clark and Lana, letting they feelings grow and match. But the only thing that they know is how to break beautiful works, stories and characters. They only know destruction and death. They forget about us...

Terrible e episode
MyEinsamkeit9 August 2016
Basically a kid with a annoying voice has a crush on someone , so he has powers to draw out an action to happen. If he wants to killed someone, he can draw it out on paper and it comes to light. Boring already and dull.

The last scene with him and Clark battling is even more awful. He moves his head and Clark gets toss into the air, then he uses a chainsaw to try to killed Chloe and Clark's gets in the way. I almost fell asleep on this episode. The kid's voice was even more annoying.

I'm re-watching every episode of SV from season 1 to 10. So I'm forcing myself to watch this crap along with another crappy episode called Spirit.(which is later in the series). Sadly with every TV series, there's episodes that suck.
