part of tv history
A_Different_Drummer11 August 2019
Only time will tell where Smallville ends up in TV history, but this episode deserves to be remembered on its own merit. The two exceptionally young producers who launched this show were never better at their craft -- this one has a "film noire" vibe to it, never a dull moment, never a bad performance. Durance makes the most of her character debut, Welling relishes playing his inner Kyptonian, the flight scene is better than most of the movies, and Kruek steals her scenes with an intensity new to her character as well. A standout.

Lois Lane, A New Beginning.

Warning: Spoilers
Clark returns to Smallville as Kal-El - intent on fulfilling his destiny, he goes after a powerful Kryptonian crystal that Lex has obtained in Egypt. Meanwhile, newcomer Lois Lane arrives in Smallville to look into the death of her cousin Chloe, and Lana returns from Paris with a new boyfriend. Jonathan lies in a coma after the events of last year's season finale and Lionel must deal with his new life in prison.

A very good episode, after the amazing finale of season 3, where Chloe was brutally murdered, Lex was poisoned, Martha found rare symbols on the yard, Jonathan was having a heart attack, Lana moved to Paris, and Clark was being kidnapped by his father Kal-El.

In this episode all this issues are solved, but Chloe's character should have been dead by now, but in season 4, we learn that it was a miracle, since the house exploded in her face, but who knows?

Clark flies, Lois arrives, and Martha comes to the rescue.

It has been three months since the end of Season Three. Clark has been missing and Jonathan is in a coma. When Chloe's cousin Lois arrives in Smallville and Clark resurfaces, it makes one good episode.

Though not quite as good as Season Three premiere, "Exile", "Crusade" is a fantastic episode. The acting is top notch and the special effects are incredible for a weekly TV show! Clark's first flight is one of the most memorable scenes of Smallville ever. Erica Durance is great as Lois bringing charm and sexiness to her role. Martha has a chance to save the day for once and Margot Kidder(Lois Lane in the Christopher Reeve Superman Franchise) guest stars.

Martha Kent, the Heroine
claudio_carvalho20 May 2006
Three months later the last episode, Lois Lane (Erica Durance), the cousin of Chloe Sullivan, drives to Smallville trying to find Clark Kent to help her to find the responsible for Chloe's murder. After the strike of a ray, she loses control of her car, and finds Clark naked with amnesia in a cornfield. She brings him to Smallville Medical Center, where Martha is with Jonathan Kent, who is in a hopeless coma. Martha brings Clark back to the farm, expecting him to retrieve his memory. Meanwhile, Lana Lang has an American boyfriend in Paris, Jason Teague (Jensen Ackles), and is having good time with him. Lex Luthor's blood is poisoned and he travels to bring an ancient object retrieved from an excavation.

The first episode of the Fourth Season shows news characters (Lois Lane, Jason Teague and Bridgette Crosby) and situations. I loved to see Margot Kidder again, the unforgettable Lois Lane of "Superman". Pete Ross left the show, and we do not know what has happened with Chloe. The effect of the black kryptonite is very different and in this episode, the greatest heroine is to Martha Kent, who saves her son and her husband. My vote is eight.

Featuring Martha Kent

Warning: Spoilers
A couple of scenes save this episode from being an entirely disappointing season premiere. For me, this episode probably is a 5 or 6 without one thing. This one thing will require me to say that this review contains a spoiler, but I don't care.

CLARK FLIES.

OK, well, not actually Clark, but "Kal-El," as the young man who has accepted his destiny. Unfortunately, there are some bad sides to this Kal-El version of Clark, so his mother Martha must use black kryptonite to divide the two egos. When this happens, Jonathan comes out of his coma in the hospital, a result of his encounter with Jor-El when Clark was taken from the cave.

And, oh yeah, meet Lois Lane. However, the way that she is introduced is iffy, inappropriate but understandable based on the situation that Clark is in. However, it is inappropriate, and it's sad to see Lois introduced to the show in this way.
