More suspicion on Lex and more of Clark saving people
Brettyboy00712 September 2014
This episode is just your regular "mutant of the week" episode with some side stories about Lex and the Kents and Clark and Lana go on their first "non date". The writing is excellent, because it builds on the Clark/Lana relationship and who she obviously turns to when things don't go her way.

Lex has some great lines in here too such as the "A high school boyfriend isn't a husband. He's an obstacle". This urges Clark to take a step up and ask Lana to a Radiohead concert as Whitney is unavailable to tend to Lana's weekend plans. Clark also has to deal with a new mutant who has the power to suck body heat out of people and freeze anything. Clark always never gets the girl.

Excited for the next one as it features Clark and Lex's future being told.

Clark Tryin to Be Cool for Lana!
gab-1471210 November 2021
Clark Kent is too cool for school in this episode of Smallville. Just kidding, but he does try to appear cool in the eyes of Lana Lang. But for the sake of idealism and trying to help others, things do not work out the way they should for Mr. Kent. "Cool" is a solid episode with a memorable villain (ice and cold is the name of the game this time around) and solid special effects. Most importantly, this episode is all about character development and relationships between characters. Clark and Lana's relationship progressed in a very interesting manner. Also, Lex Luthor tries to better his relationship with the Kents. He wants Clark as a friend, but Jonathan and Martha are suspicious of his actions and intents, especially Jonathan.

Sean Kelvin (ha, love that temperature reference?) is an arrogant football player suffers through an accident in a frozen lake...which had kryptonite at the bottom. He survives because of it but he needs to take heat from other people to stay alive and his power is freezing things. Meanwhile, the Kents are having financial issues. Lex offers them money to stay afloat, but Jonathan is highly suspicious. Back to Sean Kelvin, he kills his girlfriend and invites Chloe on a date so he can take away her body heat. It just so happens that Lana and Clark are going on a date to a Radiohead concert, but Clark needs to save Chloe. In the end, poor Lana is back with Whitney.

Overall, this is a really good episode if not as memorable as previous episodes. Relationship development has been progressed with many characters. It strikes me that Lex is doing anything he can to have Clark's friendship even if it means buying expensive concert tickets and offering Ma and Pa Kent to pay off their debts. A solid villain with ice skills that ends in a nice payoff.

My Grade: B+

Smallville is Getting Cooler
Rcwilkinson12312 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
"Smallville, Season 1" continues its successful run with an episode that contrasts with Episode 1.3, "Hothead."

At a party, an arrogant football player named Sean takes an unfortunate fall into a frozen lake filled with glowing green rocks at its bottom. Rather than dying from the extreme temperatures, Sean is induced with a power to be able to leech other people's body heat for his own as his only way to keep from freezing internally. He uses his own girlfriend for this purpose, and then aims to use Chloe for the same means. Chloe has a hard time resisting the date offer since she is crushing on him. However, she learns the truth just in time.

In this episode, we also see the financial offers that Lex gives Clark's father Jonathan in favor for Clark saving his life. However, Jonathan refuses such offers from a Luthor.

The One Where Everything's Cold...

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode. I love the idea of ice powers, just because I think they're super cool. So, it was nice to see this kind of power incorporated into the show.

In this episode, whilst at a party near a frozen lake, Smallville High football star, Sean Kelvin, falls into a frozen lake, and drowns. But since there is Kryptonite at the bottom of the lake, he comes back to life, and now has the power to freeze things. But he also has to take the heat away from people, so he can survive, which kills them. After Sean freezes, and kills his girlfriend, he invites Chloe on a date. But don't worry, Clark Kent saves the day, as usual.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

Sean Is Not Cool!
claudio_carvalho14 March 2006
In a high school party nearby a frozen river with kryptonite in the bottom, the arrogant football player Sean Kelvin (Michael Coristine) has an accident and drowns under the ice. However, he mysteriously survives with the power and need of taking the heat of other people and freeze things. Meanwhile, the Kents have financial difficulties and need a loan to save their farm, and Lex Luthor invites them for a meeting and offers the necessary money in a lower interest rate to the reluctant Jonathan Kent. Sean freezes and kills his girlfriend Jenna Barnum (Tania Saulnier), and invites Chloe Sullivan to date him with the intention to use her heat for his own survival. Clark Kent, who is going to a Radiohead concert with Lana Lang, quits the date to save his friend.

"Cool" is another great episode of this excellent TV series. This well written episode shows again a very charming cast, a great cinematography and music score and also fantastic special effects with the power of Sean. My vote is nine.

Too Cool for School!
Jerique9 August 2010
Perhaps my most favourite episode from the entire series, or at least the first season, is Cool. Why? There's so much about it that is great. I love the villain of Sean who becomes a hypothermic homicidal maniac, when he can't stay warm and needs bodyheat from others to get his normal coloring back.

It shows off some really great visual effects for the most part, while still showing off some of the previously seen special effects, as well. I especially like the photography used in the scene where Sean passes by some lit candles and as soon as he passes, they become a solid piece of ice flame.

Lana's relationship with Clark develops a bit more while Lex's relationship with Jonathan Kent crumbles more so. It's great to watch the dramatic stuff in the episode as much as the thrilling action. I especially like the line of "a high school boyfriend is not a husband, he's an obstacle," from the voice of Lex.

As Lex tries to prove that he genuinely cares about the Kents, Jonathan and Martha continue to have their suspicions (mostly, Clark's dad). I do enjoy the rest of the episode's flawless acting, amazing special and visual effects, and awesome storyline.

I love this episode and it's my favourite episode from the first season, definitely. There's nothing bad about this episode. Perhaps the best part of the episode comes from watching Shawn change the pool into a lake of pure ice and then watching Clark, with ease, punch a hole into it. Great episode!
