First appearance of Superintendent Chalmers.
Barry White wanted to guest star on the show, so he was written into the plot. He sang "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" specially for the episode, rather than using a recorded version.
This episode has a noteworthy plot structure. It spends almost one third of its running time on storylines that turn out to be secondary (Skinner dealing with a visit from the superintendent, Bart getting expelled from school) before reaching its main storyline, which is whacking day. This became a recurring pattern in later Simpsons episodes.
Matt Groening considers Homer's "I am evil Homer" fantasy to be one of the greatest moments in the show's history.
Barry White opens his comments with "My unlimited love to y'all". In 1973 he formed "The Love Unlimited Orchestra" to back his vocals.
