Beware My Dear Rattlesnakes!
g-bodyl9 January 2015
This is the twentieth episode of the fourth season of the Simpsons. This is a very good episode that introduces us a strange custom of Springfield: Whacking Day. There are some clever jokes here as usual. I particularly liked the cameo of Barry White who performed a new version of his classic hit.

In this episode, "Whacking Day," Bart gets expelled from school after an incident involving the superintendent of the school, so Marge decides to homeschool him. Meanwhile, Lisa is appalled by how active Springfield is in their annual custom of beating rattlesnakes.

Overall, this is another classic episode of the Simpsons. It's hilarious and I love how Grampa tries to explain to Bart his adventures during World War Two. That scene with Hitler had me laughing. I rate this episode 9/10.

Home Schooled

Bart gets expelled when he drives a tractor and runs over the superintendent. He tries the Christian school and lasts about five minutes. While this is transpiring, we are introduced to Whacking Day, when all the citizens grab clubs and kill all the snakes. Lisa fights against the barbarism of this day. Some great social commentary.

Snakes alive

Warning: Spoilers
Whacking Day has Barry White playing himself, and one thing I loved is when Mayor Quimby gets in hot water for appealing to the masses to try to whack snakes, but he failed to read the changing atmosphere of the room.

Anyway, Bart's homeschool efforts are quite funny and it's a shame it didn't continue but I guess what would Principal Skinner be without Bart and his antics to bring down the school.

For me, it's the first 10 seasons that represent the golden era of The Simpsons, with some episodes after that worth watching and all. Whacking Day is a proud part of the golden era and worth watching definitely.

One of the best

Bart gets expelled as Springfield prepares for Whacking Day.

This is one of my favourite episodes and never fails to make me laugh.

The story is fairly simple, but combined with the setting of Whacking Day it gives a biting satire of animal cruelty and a platform for brilliant comedy. For me it has (along with 'And Maggie Makes Three') one of the best endings to a Simpsons episode.

I think the humour is prolific from start to finish. Bart and Lisa are involved in most of it, but multiple characters such as Homer, Marge, Maggie, Principal Skinner, Superintendent Chalmers, Groundskeeper Willy, Nelson, Jimbo, Mayor Quimby, Barney, Reverend Lovejoy, and Barry White all have memorable moments.

I am Evil Homer, I am Evil Homer

Whacking Day is a classic Simpsons episodes, one of the best in my opinion. When the Simpsons started Season 1 wasn't particularly good, Season 2 was a big improvement, Season 3 was when the Simpsons was starting to become really good, and Season 4 was when the show starting to become great.

Whacking Day has two plots. The first is about Bart getting expelled from school, after he runs over Superintendent Chalmers with a tractor. After Bart is unable to find a new school, Marge decides to homeschool Bart and his improves dramatically under her education. The second is one involving the town tradition of Whacking Day, where the whole town smash snakes to death in one day of bloodshed.

The episode had a good plot, written by the great John Swartzwelder (the best writer in the Simpsons' history) and based on the idea of George Meyer from his childhood. Whacking Day even won an award because of its role in animal rights. As well as the plot they are great jokes and satire in this episode, including about Middle American attitudes and the American education system. Some of the best are the famous 'Evil Homer', Grampa's World War II flashback and a nice little be involving the tractor.

It's truly a testament of the Simpsons at its best!

Pretty Funny

Whacking Day is probably the second funniest episode of 'The Simpsons' season 4 which was probably the best 'Simpsons' season. The guest voice of Barry White puts in a fine rap to the episode. And it has one of the best 'Simpsons' lines. When he's starts to introduce Whacking Day, he doesn't know what it is, but when he finds out, he tells the people "You people sicken me!" And the crowd cheer. So it's probably safe to say that whacking day is the second best episode of season four of 'The Simpsons', next to 'Krusty Gets Kancelled.' What also gives it kudos is it's Johnny Tremain homage (one of my favorite books.) So I guess it's pretty funny.
