Hilarious, with a lot of Heart,

The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons is a terrific Simpsons episode with a well written plot and loads of very funny scenes. It's an enjoyable episode that I always get a kick out of as we see Apu getting Marge to pretend to be his wife after his mother comes to set up an arranged marriage. Particularly the scenes where Bart and Lisa struggle to pretend to be his kids are side splitting hilarity. I did think the retirement home side story, which was a lot of fun, was cut short, I certainly would like to have seen more of Homer taking advantage of their lifestyle. It never forgets to have heart, Homer doing this huge favour for Apu is a sweet moment to showcase their friendship, and the wedding at the end was very heartwarming. Funny and heartfelt, The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons is one of the highlights of the ninth season.

Marge agrees to pretend she is Apu's wife when his mother arrives to set up his arranged marriage, meanwhile, Homer moves in to the Retirement Castle.

Really!!!

Someone seriously accused the Simpsons of being insensitive to a culture. Oh, does this mean that up to now this had never been done? Apu gets his turn as the center of attention as he reveals he was part of an arranged marriage and engages Homer to help him get out of it. Of course, India becomes a victim of this idiocy, just as a hundred other institutions have been maligned. This one is funny. That's all.

Apu is sent a lotus flower from his mother and looks to Homer for a way out of the arranged marriage.

This is a strong episode with good humour and character moments.

I love it when The Simpsons lampoon cultural practices outside general American life and this one sends up arranged marriages comically with Apu. He is used well as someone with one foot in each culture, trying to keep his mother happy in a hilarious web of deceit.

Apu also plays the straight-man to Homer's screwball antics as he perpetuates lie after lie. His time in the retirement home involves numerous moments of idiotic slobbery that feel quintessentially Homer.

Everything builds towards a great wedding sequence that is quite memorable.

Bigoted and dated.

Having watched this I understand why they wrote Apu out of the simpsons. Humour made out of general ignorance of other people's culture and beliefs. Maybe simpsons has had its time.
