The heartbroke kid is one of the few episodes that i liked in Season 16. It's about Bart getting fat from eating too much candy and junk food from the slang talking vending machines installed in the school. I especially like the skating scene, as Bart tries to get home in his usual manner on his skateboard, but he injures everyone, the sidewalk cracks under him, he smashes into cars and creates havoc on his way. It's not only funny, but it also has a serious message about a serious topic: children need to have a healthy diet, but in most societies they don't for various reasons. Personally I don't like the idea of junk food vending machines in school. The school officials resort to the vending machines because of lack of money, as it's summarized by the usual dry humor of the Chalmers Skinner dialogs: 'Just sign the damn contract'. On a larger scale, the episode also shows in a funny way how junk food gets to all of us because it's convenient and cheap, right down the hallway, but that in the long run we put our health in danger. Lisa reads the contents of a can of soda, and I think we can all relate on how she only finds out that it's made out of petrol, poison, plutonium and stuff. A great episode, a satire of the way society works, just like in the golden era. Also featuring Albert Brooks as pushy and sometimes confused fat camp manager Ted Spangler, and also a bunch of rude German tourists who make Homer sing '99 luftbaloons'.
