Great stuff

Warning: Spoilers
Two good episodes in a row?!

Bart and co end up being roped into being a band (albeit with sinister motives), with NSYNC among their supporters.

With some great pop culture gags and classic Homer-ism's this episode is up there with the best from a weak S12.

Yes, the ending tails off a bit, but I can forgive that for the catchy 'Join the Navy' song.

Insightful 'N Sync parody

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the end credits, which featured the N'Sync members in real-life in the recording studio. This was later replicated in How I Spent my Strummer Vacation, where you had the Rolling Stones and other rock stars appearing real-life in the recording studio.

Having just seen this, what wasn't edited out was the shot of a building (housing the MAD magazine headquarters) in New York being blown up, which was kind of sensitive at the time due to the events of 11 September 2001.

The parody of boy bands at the turn of the millennium was quite sharp, as was bringing in MAD magazine and their headquarters in New York City.

Meh, but there's an interesting thing

This episode is from those limbo years of Simpsons: hardly any good, but yet not as terrible as the stuff from mid-2000s to now. There's one very interesting thing though: the MAD headquarters is destroyed around the end of the episode. If you didn't know, you could swear it's a joke about 9/11. I thought that when I first watched this episode around 2003.

Amazing how well they can predict the future sometimes.
