A Very Fun Episode that sees Homer being taken out of his Comfort Zone,
lesleyharris303 March 2015
King of the Hill is a great Simpsons episode with a very well written storyline and plenty of very funny scenes. I like seeing episodes like this, where we see one of the characters being put in a position that we never thought we would and hilarity ensues, in this case we see Homer struggling to climb up a mountain, and to make matters more hilarious he must do it on a diet of power bars. I also enjoyed the guest roles of Brendan Fraser and Steven Weber, who were both quite unlikeable characters, but they both had very funny dialogue and I enjoyed their role. It's certainly not the highlight of the ninth season, but King of the Hill is still a very enjoyable Simpsons episode.

After he starts going to the gym, Homer is spotted by an energy bar company who want him to climb a mountain as a promotion for their product.

Deng Xiaoping died

Homer joins an expedition to climb the highest mountain in Springfield.

This is a solid Homer episode with enjoyable humour.

The first part of this one concerns Homer joining a gym and working out. As you can imagine the writers make good use of the concept of him trying to get into shape and generate great fun. I like how it portrays what happens to most men who do a half-baked job of physical training by showing his arms/shoulders expanding slightly, but everything else (that would require harder work and dedication) remains unchanged.

Secondly, the mountaineering sequence has some good of adventure-comedy and sight gags involving Homer and also the family and other waiting below. The Sherpas are funny too.

For me it's a 7.5/10, but I round upwards.

He Really Was Heroic

Homer embarrasses Bart when he biffs during a picnic game. So he decides to get into shape. We never knew that there were three mountains in Springfield, rivaling the Himalayas, but sponsoring a nutrition bar sends Homer up the mountain. There are some really funny lines all the way through. Loved the Sherpas!

Funniest....Line....Ever

This episode contains one of my Top Ten All-Time Homer Lines.

After Homer is duped, er, I mean persuaded into climbing Mt. Springfield to promote an energy snack bar, he uses the bar as fuel for energy and during the arduous trip up the mountain, he finds out from the promoters that the bar is not full of super-enriched natural fruits and fiber but old Chinese newspapers. He takes a bite and sure enough, with impeccable comedic timing, looks at the bitten off-bar and says: "Wow, you're right...Xung Dau Ping died...".

This line has stuck with me for nearly 20 years and is as funny today as it ever was, especially when I see a repeat on Fox TV's FX-Simpsons Marathons and reminds me of the brilliantly creative writing that has been the hallmark of this enduring TV show.

Fun, underrated episode Warning: Spoilers
I personally like this episode a lot; feels like a throwback to the old characterization Homer used to have in the earlier seasons (When he was still depicted as a very flawed, but loving father) instead of the insufferable, idiotic buffoon he became much later in the series (In fact, the previous episode, "Trash of the Titans was one of these moments where Homer was at his absolute worst, playing a villainous role)

The jokes were fun and effective, without having to rely on shock value or any topical trend from the era; definitely one of the highest points of a rather uneven season, along with "The Joy of Sect" and "Simpsons Tide".
