Too Plain Stupid!

When Moe hits paydirt with a girl, spends to excess and ends up broke. Of course, she liked him without all the spending, but he never figured it out. He comes up with a perfectly good scheme but because Homer is involved, it is doomed to failure. There are some really funny moment and the outcome is, of course, ludicrous.

Moe meets a lady and spends too much money trying to impress her.

This is a strong episode with good humour and visuals.

The story makes great use of characters like Moe, Homer, Chief Wiggam and Barney. Moe's unlucky romantic exploits set the scene well for what is to come, which includes some great moments of ineptitude at meeting people. Homer has the majority of best moments as the events progress and he is equally inept at virtually everything he touches.

My favourite moment by far is the scene involving Barney, which has a great sight-gag. The visually humour is consistently strong, particularly the scenes involving Moe's car.

Helen Hunt guest stars

Warning: Spoilers
Helen Hunt is the voice of Renee, who is Moe's unlikely girlfriend in this 1998 episode of The Simpsons. I initially thought Renee was voiced by Marcia Wallace (who sadly died in 2013).

For me Dumbbell Indemnity falls at the tail end of the golden era of The Simpsons for sure, being the first 10 seasons, although I appreciate some fans may disagree.

One hilarious scene was where Homer goes to a drive-in to see Hail to the Chimp.

Moe double-crosses Homer for the sake of his romance with Renee, with Homer having to face the exercise yard while in prison. Thankfully all's well that ends well with Homer and Moe.

Blockheads in crime

Insurance fraud - not just for classic film noir, but also bang-up Simpsons episodes! 'Dumbbell Indemnity' (now there's a title that really spells it out) has one of my very favorite clips: the image of an irate Homer riding a library cart down the street ("Must kill Moe . . . WHEEEE!") . . .

But this one's got it in pretty much every department: sight gags, one-liners, a slew of Hank Azaria characters, and Homer's an idiot. But it goes beyond that to show a deep-seated insecurity beneath Moe's coarse veneer. It's hysterical, energetic, and even touching.

Top-shelf Simpsons.

Very emotional and intense

I feel Moe's emotions in this. Just how he feels so guilty and horrible for betraying his friend.

Glad that he chose Homer over that girl.

Homer just feels so innocent and confused in this episode.
