In this episode Marge becomes a curator of large animals, which was an invented skill she put on her resume when she applied for a job at the nuclear power plant in Marge Gets a Job (1992).
Guest star Alec Baldwin previously appeared on the show as himself.
Alec Baldwin and Joe Mantegna also co-starred in Alice (1990).
The "Deck-Splitting" scam Lisa recognizes Homer is falling for, where he's wrongly convinced that Professor Pigskin's random football bets are all accurate because of random chance, is a more complicated version of a gambling "advice" line's slight of hand as outlined in a November 1991 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED article. The advisor in question would simply split all of his picks 50/50 for every game and with every pool of gamblers (or, if the pool had an odd number of participants, as close to 50/50 as mathematically possible), so in every case half the bettors would win and would mostly return the next week. The idea was to have a steady pool of happy paying clients, not to eventually have anyone go bust the way Homer does here.
