This Episode Makes You Realise How Good Some Other Episodes Are
corinwright7 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In case you didn't know, this episode is a clip show based on music clips from previous shows.

In defence of the show and of the writers of this episode, they do state in the running commentary of the episode that clip shows are something they "have to" do (for whatever reason) and they do reiterate that they don't like doing them. But this clip show seems to stand out as being particularly boring for me. There's no real plot of any substance in the episode and so there is very little to actually keep you entertained and with the greatest respect to the composers, I wouldn't ever highlight the occasional songs as one of the main reasons I love The Simpsons even though I can appreciate that they are well written.

In fact I think an episode full of new songs that were related to an interesting plot would make for a decent episode, it's just the fact that nearly all of the songs I'd already seen that prompted me to fast forward due to slight boredom.

All Singing, All Dancing

Warning: Spoilers
There was nothing wrong with any of the songs, there is however something wrong with this episode, I don't like clip shows, if I wanted to watch clips I'd go to YouTube, the only thing that saved this episode was the self-awareness at the end, at least they admit (sort of) that clip shows aren't good what a waste of an episode slot.

All of you sing terrible i sing more better than anyone
arielsiere29 September 2022
Oh my god All Singing, All Dancing has got to be one of the worst Simpsons episode from 1998 along with Homer Simpson In Kidney Trouble this episode starts with the Simpsons family celebrating their episode, it's just a random cliché when they use old songs and no new songs like in a movie does, even when Snake Jailbird enters The Simpsons house he says that he hates Singing making him a complete killjoy and a party pooper good thing he got executed in the Treehouse Of Horror Ix during the segment Hell Toupee and Homer strangles Bart again like mostly in the episodes does when in reality this is just plain terrible.

Enjoy Your Vacation, Writers

I liked the song "We Do" at the conclusion. It was good to hear it again. The rest of this thing was utterly tiresome and the voices were terrible. I know from time to time there is material wanting, but this was just so poorly put together.

Worst Simpson episode ever!
brooklyn-schuster10 May 2006
Well this was not only the worst Simpsons Clip show it was the worst Simpson episode too! I'm a big Simpsons fan so and I find the creativity and the sarcastic humor superb. So 'I have to say that there shouldn't be any clip shows! Clip shows are just old scenes mixed with a mediocre plot. When I watch the Simpsons I want to see new jokes and satirical references. All singing, All Dancing was even worse than normal clip shows. It's okay to hear one Simpsons song in an episode...... but a 25 minutes of singing? Well, every brilliant TV show has it's bad times too! In this case it was "All singing, All dancing"

3 of 10 Stars!

Holy Moly how did this episode even air?
strtmanadammac8 July 2007
I am a huge fan of THE SIMPSONS and I always have been but I must say this episode was terrible. The start was okay but then it turned from cake to custard because it was a shocking episode which was absolute rubbish from start to finish, probably because I'd already seen all those songs being sung already and it wasn't very intriguing to hear them again.

Clip shows just don't work because...

One. The plots are mediocre and stupid.

Two. Barely any new jokes. Simply old ones which would make us snuff a little but that's about it.

Three. Not entertaining. The main reason you watch TV is for entertainment and this episode did anything but entertain.

If the song "Gonna paint a wagon comes on," switch off your TV immediately and save yourself from being bored to death.

Not as bad as some claim

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this episode is primarily made from clips of previous episodes. At the very end, the writers break the fourth wall and admit how cruddy it is when a "long running series does a cheesy clip show." They acknowledge that it's kind of a shady thing and in my opinion, that's what makes it funny. Also, making fun of Paint your Wagon was pretty excellent. I'm a fan of any episode that features at least one song. This episode is nothing but songs so it wins from that perspective too. Is it the best Simpsons episode ever? Not really, but it really was a great attempt at poking fun at the series especially in a time where the series wasn't as sure of it's continued success. Overall I give this episode a solid 7/10.

Another stupid clip show
maiderekk11 December 2012
First off, I am a huge Simpsons fan and I have been collecting all of the seasons on DVD as they've been released.

But after 4 minutes into the episode "All singing, All dancing" I immediately fast-forwarded through the entire episode only to find that it was yet another clip show containing archive footage of past episodes where people sang a song and danced.

That is why I didn't even bother watching this episode on DVD. Because I've already seen all the episodes with songs and dances throughout the entire series to date, and I don't really care about seeing them again in season 9. If I wanted to see them again I would pull out the older seasons and watch them!!!

This is why they should NOT do clip shows. They're a complete waste of time and a slap in the face to all the fans who have already seen this crap before. Seriously, its really cheap that the writers use old footage and a mediocre plot to pass off a worthless 24 minutes of what they consider an episode.

And whats even worse is this isn't the first time its been done... Remember Season 4 episode 18: "So It's come to this: A Simpsons clip show" which was actually an okay episode because it had a good plot. But remember Season 6 episode 3: "Another Simpsons Clip Show"? Yeah same crap.

If I were Matt Groening I would of had this episode scrapped before it could even air. I hope they don't create anymore clip show episodes in the future seasons.

Definitely one of the worst Simpsons episodes here
mwcrunner15 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is nothing but a freaking clip show. We already know all the songs from the classic episodes we have watched like Apu's song, Mr. Burns song, Krusty's song and other freaking classic Simpsons songs that we know and love to sing. I mean there are other clip shows in this show and no one wants to watch a clip show. Just a really good episode that they already know about and love. These clip shows shouldn't even be part of the series anyway so it would be better if all these clip shows would just be off the air for good and not to be watched again online either. Also why do all the characters in this clip show have to sing about all the past episodes which people have already seen? Come on we already know about these episodes so there's no need to sing about them and show them to us again in one setting.

How did this EVER get approval to air?
zacpetch17 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Into the ninth season of The Simpsons the signs of decline are beginning to show. Of course the quality will continue until 2000 but episodes like this certainly do not help matters. It's another stupid clip show! Instead of actually giving us an episode Fox gives us a mash-up of several past episodes and tries to cover it up with... well... nothing, actually.

There's a funny opening where the family watch what looks like a western movie but it turns out to be a musical and there are moments at the start and end of each ad break when Snake shows up and threatens to kill the family if they don't stop singing but that's it for new material here. I'll admit that I like the musical clips we are shown but to be honest I'd rather go back and watch them in their original context rather than in this placeholder.

Not a great deal more to say here... the show even breaks the fourth wall at one point announcing itself to be a clip show with a banner and everything as if to say "Up Yours!" to everyone who persisted through to the ending of the episode. Avoid this garbage and watch a decent episode instead or if you MUST watch a clip show go with "Behind The Laughter" or "The 138th Episode Spectacular" but do not put up with this one. 1/10

The Simpson's Rendition of the Definition of "Filler Episode"
sevskirita4 January 2020
The Simpsons usually is a pretty decent show, but it repeatedly shows why good things should have a timely end. This makes the second episode that now is mostly full of old episode footage you've already seen to pad the Simpsons' already stupid ridiculous runtime. Maybe I should find some solace in that this money-hungry dignity-less episode brings a small amount of artistic value in that it sort of makes a musical. Too bad I also don't like musicals. You're better of skipping this episode.

Horrible!
sethmlanders2 July 2015
I'm a big fan of The Simpsons but this is pathetic. The whole episode is a bunch of random music numbers. Also, it's rated TV-G which is a rare occurrence for the show. The words to these songs were so predictable and cheesy beyond belief.

The only funny part was when they sang "In A Gadda Da Vida" in the church, I thought that was clever. It keeps transitioning from one scene to another out of nowhere and the songs are just terrible.

Seriously, this is The Simpsons and they deserve better than this. How can you screw up a Simpsons episode this bad? They weren't even trying. It's truly unbelievable. What a disappointment!

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this is a clip show, but it's not all bad, with it being nice to see some of the old musical numbers again.

As clip shows go, it's not terrible...just lazy.

"One" of the worst episodes.
Theraxorterminate6 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
For me this isn't the most truly atrocious episode from The Simpsons there are much worse episodes than this one. But to truly be honest it is a lazy episode I'm afraid. But this time I am really serious because this episode does not deliver anything so memorable or special. On this clip- show episode we get to see the Simpsons trying to make Homer remember the music and the musicals they had (and yes it even looks lazy on paper.)

Although even though they remember the musical moments I do appreciate the wonderful music the Simpsons have done many years ago. And the songs aren't bad but it's not the songs that are the problems it's about how there's no concentrated plot. And this is actually one of the Simpsons episodes I were starting to fall asleep.

Maybe the addition of Snake wasn't the best way to interact and evolve the episode. He didn't deliver anything so memorable in my opinion well I do know about the credits he were messing with but for me it got tedious and that joke feels pretty old to me.

Is it recommended? If you ask me I'd say: Nah not really. I don't really hate clip-shows but they are indeed lazy and this one might feel a bit like a rip-off for some people.

Cartoon, not a musical
MarkLynnIreland129422 June 2022
The episode is extremely lazy, even for clip show standards as it feels like ¾ of the episode are just clips from former episodes and about ¼ of it is the actual episode itself.

Flashback some memorable soundtracks like Mr. Burns 'See My Vest', "We Put the Spring in Springfield" with burlesque house, Monorail with Lanley, 'We Do' in Stonecutters episode,

There's still some memorable likeable soundtracks not included like "Happy Birthday Lisa", "Señor Burns", "Canyonero", Troy McClure 'Dr. Zaius', "Jazzman" in 'Round Springfield' tribute to Bleeding Gums Murphy.

It's funny though when Snake keeps interrupting the ending credits music.
