Believable diversion

When you want to help somebody escape from prison, what do you do? In this episode we learn, the best way is to hire 3 gorgeous models and let them have a photo shooting near the prison, because it makes a totally discreet, believable diversion. That probably happens all the time near prisons and won't arouse any suspicions whatsoever by the guards.

This is a very silly episode, make no mistake. To add insult to injury, the photographer calls Matt Cutter 'Matthew Honey' and gets away with it. Cutter is reminded by Sheena: 'be careful, your eyes might pop out of your head', and she gets away with that, too. The prison director says about Cutter: 'Execute him with the others' and – no, we can't let him get away with that, can we?

Unsure whether to look forward to this episode or dread it, I found the results were somewhere in between. Would they simply indulge in photo-shoot fun? Would there be a really dramatic plot? The answer was yes to both, creating an unwelcome tone-flipping experience; we can't really relax into fun with the guests, nor really concentrate on the profoundly serious aspects of the drama -- each undermines the other. The male guest star likewise flips between frothy and dead serious, with equally unsatisfactory results. To make matters worse, Sheena queries Cutter about male perceptions of female nudity while the models bathe in a lake, gasping and cooing all the while. Not exactly a highwater mark for the series.
