My favorite Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is my favorite episode of Seinfeld. It has all the necessary elements of comedy; a farcical plot, a moral, and lots of people acting stupid. I love Elaine's whole story that was a misunderstanding, Jerry's "beef" with the bookie, and George's need for a great entrance. I was also very happy that George finally got a happy ending, and didn't end up looking like a fool, although he should have.

Favorite Quotes:

Peggy: "Susie?!"

Elaine: "I'm not Susie. I'm Elaine."

Peggy: "I've been calling you Susie."

Elaine: Oh, I hadn't noticed."

One of their zaniest

Warning: Spoilers
The zaniness of this episode makes it one of the series best. George's ploy of wandering off when his girlfriend says "We have to talk" and then just not returning all night and avoiding her for days, trying desperately to prevent a breakup before the big Yankee Ball was most loopy.

When Elaine is called "Suze" she flies off the handle, explaining that any other version of the name "Susie" is fine, but NEVER "Suze." Only Elaine would get so worked up over a nickname that is based on a mistake about what her name is.

A third wild plot involves Kramer, unable to bet because of his old gambling problem, having no problem placing a bet for Jerry with his new bookie friend. I loved the way Mike the bookie is terrified of Jerry while locked inside his trunk, hearing Jerry and Elaine laugh about "doing away with Susie." The capper for me was near the end when Peterman recalled all sorts of things about Susie, oblivious to the fact that she never existed.

If You Knew Susie
Hitchcoc15 April 2023
There are some choice moments here. First of all, like most Seinfeld characters, people are cowards. That woman calls Elaine Susie but she doesn't dare to correct here which moves to a whole series of goof ups. The best part is a guy that Jerry hates who called him a phony five years ago. He has become a bookie and somehow Kramer bets money without Jerry's knowledge and wins. But the guy can't pay. This leads to a series of mob like misunderstandings with the guy in Jerry's trunk, thinking he is going to die. We also have a funeral where the non-character Susie is memorialized, even though she doesn't exist.

I can't understand for the life of me why this episode didn't reach its full potential for me

Warning: Spoilers
This episode might be the perfect evidence that "Seinfeld" may be slowly declining in quality since the exit of genius Larry David. "The Susie" should have worked tremendously well, as a series of entertaining ideas are present to make an episode that combines each idea to form a story. "The Little Kicks" from earlier in the season was a perfect example of a classic "Seinfeld" episode. I just didn't feel that here.

Kramer decides to prepare for Daylight Savings early, as he can no longer wait for it. This was open to so many jokes, but the strangest thing is this becomes a sideline note. Kramer's story is really about the way he has to speak for George's new girlfriend. He meets George at a restaurant, known for its various imminent breakups. I assumed that Kramer setting his watch an hour ahead would work its way into George's newest relationship. But it never did.

I enjoyed the way George was avoiding contact with his girlfriend, all because he desired a grand entrance at the Yankees ball event. I was less impressed with the 'gay' talk between George and Kramer, although both Michael Richards and Jason Alexander are astonishing.

Elaine's story was funny, and the ending is absolutely terrific. Although I was initially puzzled by 'phony' Mike's appearance (as I wasn't sure how it would work into the plot), it was ultimately rewarding.

The episode does pay off rather well to each of the stories, but "The Susie" was highly disappointing.

I like the bit where George pulled the suit and Kramer spun around

Jerry Collects
Samuel-Shovel5 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Susie", George tries to avoid the woman he's dating so she can't break-up with him. Kramer puts down a bet in Jerry's name but the bookie can't pay up. A co-worker of Elaine thinks Elaine is someone named Susie and badmouths some lady named Elaine around the office. Elaine must juggle both employee names. Kramer breaks up with George as a representative of George's girlfriend.

This episode is all about role reversals. Jerry keeps hurting the bookie (albiet accidentally) after the guy can't pay up on his bet, Kramer breaks off a relationship with George he has no part in, Elaine has dual personalities she must cope with around the office. As always with this crew, everything eventually comes crumbly down in comedic fashion. Not a bad episode but definitely not one of the all time greats either.

Guest starring Lee Arenberg as Mike
safenoe2 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Lee Arenberg returns as Mike, and look, I'm enjoying reflecting upon and re-watching Seinfeld, after having first watched it back when it debuted in the early 1990s, but I found this eighth season episode, The Susie, just off-kilter and not really up to the high standards of Seinfeld. I feel like I'm a school teacher who is disappointed by the star student who usually turns in high standard work, but anyway, any Seinfeld episode is better than none I guess, and The Susie had its moments, with mistaken identities to kind of get you laughing and all init. The Susie identity was a bit far-fetched, even by Seinfeld standards.
